I don't know that it's the case in this example, but you might as well read the current bio for BBC2 presenter Gordon Brewer. Catch it while you can, I suspect.

I strongly suspect that Gordon Brewer is in fact the author of his own profile & that this is an example of dry British humour or more particularly dry Scottish wit.

That was my hunch as well but as I know nothing about the guy I didn't want to make any assumptions.

If you look at the other two presenter's bios, you can see that none of their subjects take themselves too seriously. Not a problem for most UK readers, but I can see how some from other cultures may get the wrong message.
Other than ex-pats, I doubt that many outside Scotland would read them anyway.
