View Full Version : LANC controller for NX5 Stelios Christofides July 6th, 2011, 06:44 AM I have downloaded the Operation manual for the NX5 but I can't see where the LANC jack is situated. Can someone point this to me. stelios Tom Hardwick July 6th, 2011, 06:50 AM Just above the on/off switch. Expanded focus / assign 7 / LANC socket. Mind you, my Zoe LANC controller that worked beautifully on the Z1 is just not happy with the NX5 and some facilities (like the auto focus on/off) don't work at all. tom. Stelios Christofides July 6th, 2011, 06:52 AM Thanks Tom. How come I couldn't find it in the manual. There is nothing in the Index about LANC jack. stelios Tom Hardwick July 6th, 2011, 07:22 AM It's called a 'remote jack' in my NX5 book, so maybe they've departed from the LANC protocol for some reason. Stelios Christofides July 6th, 2011, 07:54 AM Thanks Tom. I am using the manfrotto LANC controller on my Z5 so lets hope that when I purchase the NX5 will also work on it as well. stelios Chris Hurd July 6th, 2011, 07:54 AM maybe they've departed from the LANC protocol for some reason.I believe the protocol is still the same or nearly so, but it is an incredibly antiquated one. Ron Evans July 6th, 2011, 11:21 AM I use a Manfrotto 521 with my NX5U works fine. Ron Evans Stelios Christofides July 7th, 2011, 01:03 AM That's good to know Ron as I have 2 of these Manfrotto 521:-) stelios Junior Pascual July 7th, 2011, 04:55 PM The Manfrotto 521 also works on my AX2000 and (with the supplied adapter) on my CX550V. Daniel Paquin July 10th, 2011, 05:21 PM Manfrotto LANC which were for Canon DV cameras works well on the NX5U. However, I do not trust the on/off record button. There has been time where I thought I was recording and it was not the case. As the per the zoom in/out button it works VERY well. Mauricio Rodriguez Campos August 14th, 2011, 09:06 PM I bought this LANC and it works great. At least the basic controls for me. Vivitar 8 Button Remote Control VIV-RC-800 B&H Photo Video Victor Wilcox August 15th, 2011, 12:13 PM The Vivitar sound interesting for a low budget controller. Can you tell me if the Zoom, focus and record controls work on the NX5. Thanks, Chris Sgaraglino August 15th, 2011, 07:51 PM I'm using the LANC from VariZoom and really happy with it. VariZoom VZRock Variable-Rocker for LANC Camcorders VZ-ROCK B&H I had the smaller LANC from Sony, and really like this larger controls on the VeriZoom. Mauricio Rodriguez Campos August 18th, 2011, 03:34 PM The Vivitar sound interesting for a low budget controller. Can you tell me if the Zoom, focus and record controls work on the NX5. Thanks, Yes, zoom, rec button and focus work fine. Inclusive work the on/off. Only the search button do not work, yet I don't discover how it works but it is less. I use it for work my NX5 mounted in a crane. I use it in conjunction with this cable. VZEXTL20 VariZoom 20' Cable for all LANC and Panasonic DVX Controllers (http://www.adorama.com/VDVZEXTL20.html) John Griffin August 19th, 2011, 07:13 PM I see where some of you have posted success using the Manfrotto 521. I used this camera last week with the 521 proi, and never could get the push to auto focus to work. All other functions worked fine. Anyone have these results? I thought the 521proi was firmware updated for sony cameras? Thanks, John Victor Wilcox September 2nd, 2011, 09:18 PM Vivitar 8 Button Remote Control I got the Vivitar LANC control from B&H and was surprised how many of the functions work with the NX5U. Power will shut power on and off as long as the camcorder power switch is on. Don't forget the on camera switch when you shutting down. Record, focus and on screen (display) buttons all work as expected. Search appears to do nothing. Zoom has an adjustable fixed speed are a variable setting. In my short test, the variable speed starts out slow and after about 2-3 seconds the speed jumps to a higher speed. The mount is a spring clamp. It's strong enough, but a screw clamp would have been preferred. My case keep coming open at the top end away from the bottom screw. I'll see how it holds up. The unit has a 14" cable and includes a 4.5" A/V R adapter. For the price, $21.95, it's not bad. |
