Just finished my trial of production premium and I love it, totally ready to pay for the real thing...
It's just that I'm worried that if I buy it now, there might be a compatibility issue with the new Lion update coming this month. Should I wait to see what happens, or just go ahead and buy cs5.5 now?

Why do you think there should be any compatibility problems?
I'm sure if anything like this happens, Adobe will address the issues promptly, as they did with nVidia and recent update to 10.6.8.

you can get and install CS5.5 right now. as for lion, you can wait until adobe gives the ok, or at least you hear in places like this that the day one adopters are doing ok, or not.

It would definitely NOT be a good idea to install Lion as soon as it comes out. Wait till after the first update, and as noted above, keep informed about Adobe. OSX.6.8 hadn't been out very long at all and the Adobe free trial worked flawlessly for me. I bought the package last week and will start migrating my FCP projects over as soon as I'm comfortable with it.

I haven't run into any issues running Production Premium on Lion, as I've been using both now for a couple of months.

Wasn't Lion only released a couple of days ago?

True, Lion was only released this week. One reason you have to be wary of what you read on all the boards.

Probably beta testing or something...
