Hi,
I have a sony hdr-z1u and a dual 1.8 power mac with 1 gig RAM. I'm trying to capture footage into Final Cut Pro HD with my settings in easy set-up @ DVC-PRO - HD 1080i60. But when everything is ready to go, I can't capture at all. I can fully control my deck, but my computer won't see any footage.

Whenever I try Log & Capture / Batch Capture / Capturing with a non-controllable device etc... the program cues the deck, and tries to capture, but FCP remains a black screen and never captures anything!

Under VIEW, I've tried to refresh my A/V Devices, but when I check video playback, there is a checkmark beside - [missing] DVCPRO HD (1080i60) (1920x1080). Could this be my problem??? Do I not have enought RAM??? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance...

Are you using Final Cut Pro HD, as in version 4.5, or Final Cut Pro 5, which is a native HD and HDV editor?

The FX1 isn't a DVCPro HD camera, it's HDV, so FCP 4.5 (HD) can't capture it. You'll need to upgrade to FCP 5 to capture and edit HDV natively.

A cheaper solution with a work-around is Lumiere HD, from our own Frederic Haubrich:

Thanks, you were right on the money. My version is 4.5 and I guess I'll need to purchase Lumiere or 5.5

Lumiere rocks, but Final Cut Pro 5.0.2 is AWESOME!
