I posted this in an Apple Support Forum (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15504519) but those are always a crapshoot. I thought I'd re-post here to see if anyone had any thoughts or insight.

Final Cut Pro X keeps bonking when trying to create a Camera Archive from miniDV tape. Here's the details....

I have a Canon GL2 camera connected to my MacBook Pro's FW800 port and a capture disk connected through a Sonnet FW800 PCIExpress adapter. This eliminates firewire bus conflicts.

I want to create a "Camera Archive" of my miniDV tapes, however every single time FCPX gets to the end of the tape, the application crashes. If I check the the Camera Archive that is left and select "Show Package Contents", most of the clips are there but none of them have sound when opened inside of QuickTime Player X. I'm also unable to open that Camera Archive from the import window inside of FCPX.

If I go about capturing footage from the camera with the normal start/stop capture method, everything works fine. I get my footage in the Events library and they have sound.

If I try to create a Camera Archive and stop import before the tape finishes and choose to keep the archive, FCPX can open it inside of the import window and the sound is there. If I "Open Package Contents" on the Camera Archive and play any of the footage individually, there is no sound.

Interestingly, the clips mentioned above DO playback with sound if opened in VLC. So I don't know if this is a Quicktime Player X bug or an FCP bug. Either way, I want the app not to crash when creating an archive.

I'm running OSX 10.6.8 with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.
