I seem to recall I may have asked about this in the past some time...but...I'm not so far off wanting to do this so I'll ask again...Had a quick check in the archives...

I'm wanting blocks of text to appear apear on screen as though they are being written out on a typewriter...one letter at a time...

Does anyone know of a program that can do this easily?

The easiest way to do this using stock Vegas is via the Pro Type Titler. You can do it with the standard titler but you'll need a lot of keyframes (one per letter) to simulate this.

Since I have young children at home I pay money to avoid using foul language while manipulating keyframes - I got the Boris Continuum Complete with Type On Text - extrudes and many text effects, great stuff, and BCC behaves well with Vegas after the 10d update
Plugin Key Features for Vegas Pro Users - Type On Text (http://www.borisfx.com/sony/bccsvp/Key-Features.php#TOT)

Hi Renton

Dave in the UK just made a video about Bickley Park in the UK (used to be a place where they decode messages and his title did just what you want....I'm sure he still uses Vegas too!!!! Talk to him as you are mates ????

Otherwise I'm sure Bluff will do it or you can get tons of free software that can generate flash based titles and almost all have type in text ....you simply bring in the 3rd party file to your timeline!!

I would do it in Heroglyph mainly cos its one of my plugins and it's right there...however I would rather stay away from manual keyframing unless you have a long wet night in NZ and 3 bottles of good Scotch!!!

Would it work with Vegas Pro 10?

You can do it with the standard Text Media Generator - it will just take one keyframe per letter to do it. Assuming you don't have too many letters, it wouldn't take too long.

In Vegas Pro 10, you can also use the ProType Titler.

Bluff Titler is a standalone program. You have to render the results out to a file that you then import into Vegas.

Boris has tons of options, will work as a plugin to Vegas Pro 10, but is also the most expensive option.

Not a big fan of Bluff Titler. Too few options for what formats it can use and render out to . . .

There are certain things which are harder to do, of course, but there's a very great deal you can do with the Vegas titler and general FX.
