Why am I then not surprised to read:

Shares of Sony today dipped on the confirmed news of a $3.1 billion net loss for its fiscal 2011. The company [had] its THIRD CONSECUTIVE annual loss since it first started trading in Japan in 1958, according to Bloomberg.

But there is a big firmware and software upgrade for the VG10 - it's called the FS100.

heh, sorry, Steve, couldn't resist.

Actually -- if Sony wanted to -- they could add almost every FS100 FUNCTION via firmware to your VG10. Sure the image quality wouldn't be the same, but all the frame-rates and focus aids could be present. The re-sale value would increase dramatically. I'm sure you would still buy an FS100. You would simply have more money left in the bank because you could get more for your VG10. And, the VG10 buyer would get a better camera.

What's even more disheartening for a HUGE Sony fan like me is that the "lower" Sony CX700 offers basic peaking and zebra functions. It's sad that our $2000 VG10 is not allowed to have SIMPLE functions that a cheaper $1200 model is allowed to have.

Even the VG10's little brother, the NEX5 gives their owners an expanded zoom function for focus.
