I see the 320 has a 5pin XLR input for the on-board mic.
My Sennheiser has a 3 pin XLR.
If I can get hold of a 5pin XLR whats the correct wiring for the 5pin XLR.

As I read the spec, the 5-pin is an output. This would allow you to output whatever audio is hitting the cam. The inputs are two 3-pin xlr, and a d-sub 15 for a wireless cartridge receiver, which is usual for sony broadcast camcorders.

Whoops, reading further down the spec there may also be a 5-pin for mic input, in addition to the two 3-pins, that's a little unclear.

Regardless, 5-pin is one of the standards for a two-channel signal, typically used with a stereo mic. An M/S stereo mic is especially popular in the EU and UK, where the BBC have mandated for many years that wild/ambient/atmos sound be recorded stereo - M/S for many sorts of programming.

Here's the pinout:

5-pin xlr:
1. Shield
2. Ch 1 + Red (colors will vary with cable brand)
3. Ch 1 - Black
4. Ch 2 + Red
5. Ch 2 – Black

If you wanted a short cable you'd probably use pins 1, 2 and 3 to send your Senn to Ch. 1, or, 1, 4, 5 to send it to Ch. 2.

3-pin xlr:
1. Shield
2. + Red
3. - Black
