I saw an interesting mount system for the Sony F-3 at a rental house here in Toronto. I used a regular F-3 with Zeiss primes over the weekend and saw a new mount on the other cameras when I returned the kit. Joe Sutherland showed me a new mount systems with rails, handles and the Sony tripod plate that is fabricated by SA. It’s the same company that makes the EX-3 plates but these mounts were designed for better alignment with the F-3s. Joe was putting the finishing touch on the follow focus system and he’s just waiting for the black anodized versions with shoulder pads. The camera was a little front heavy with a monitor on top but should be much better when he gets the Zacuto EVFs to complete his kits. Most of his F-3s have zoom lenses.
I took the photos to show what the mounts look like. The locks are solid and the back can be adjusted for better balance. I think that this will enable the F-3 to be more versatile for the times when you need hand held shots.
