View Full Version : a new option for High speed filming
Wayne Reimer April 19th, 2011, 06:47 AM NAB 2011-Fastec DSLR Sized High Speed Camera For 30K. - Wide Open Camera (http://wideopencamera.com/nab-2011-2/nab-2011-fastec-dslr-sized-high-speed-camera-for-30k/)
If this is capable of what they claim in that form factor and for that price, I'mm thinking there will be a lot more high speed work done.
No sample video yet that I can find, but the possibilities are intriguing

Wayne Reimer April 19th, 2011, 08:15 AM Thanks for that, Herve! It certainly looks good, for the price!
Dom Stevenson April 20th, 2011, 08:52 AM That looks amazing. But after the last world cup i'm a bit over-slo-mowed myself.
Allan Barnwell April 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM I don't know if you saw it, but Olympus had a booth for their i-Speed TR. That is capable of up to 2000 fps at 720p.
They have a PL-mount version coming in September for around $32K. It requires a $2K control unit.
Also, FOR-A was showing their VFC-7000 variable frame rate camera which records up to 700 fps in 720p.

Paul Cronin April 25th, 2011, 06:17 AM Great to see high speed cameras coming down in price.
Dylan Couper April 26th, 2011, 11:35 PM Lots of lower cost (low 5 figure) high speed cameras this year at NAB. Can't remember the name, but saw one that was $12,000, though it looked a little like a bath toy.
Paul Cronin April 27th, 2011, 06:03 AM I know there are some lower cost cameras but are they 720p or up in res?
Dylan Couper April 27th, 2011, 04:18 PM Paul, if I remember correctly I saw some specs of 600fps at 720p, but none of the budget ones went higher/faster. At least that I saw. It wasn't one of my main interests at NAB, so I wasn't paying that close attention. Wish I could remember a name so I could have been more helpful, sorry.
Paul Cronin April 27th, 2011, 04:22 PM Thanks Dylan 600 fps at 720p is nice for $12K.
Paulo Teixeira April 28th, 2011, 09:34 PM I definitely would not mine owning this camera and the price is not too far fetched although I still can't afford it but what I find odd is the guy saying you can pay it off in 3 or 4 jobs. I know their isn't too many other people who you'd be competing with when it comes to high speed shooting but is that really realistic?
Heath McKnight April 28th, 2011, 10:26 PM I only watched a little bit of the video, but it looked like the Phantom for most of it. But I am intrigued by this camera, nonetheless.
