All,

Does anybody remember the price of the Canon 5D Mark II when it came out?
Would you think that could be the price of a new predecessor (whenever it comes and whatever name it will have)?

Just can't remember the original price... Was it $3,499.99?

Kind Regards!!

$2500.00 is the price... then and now, on the Canon website...

Body only was $2,699. I bought mine in December, 2008.

The price didn't change to my knowledge, and I think the 5D III will likely be in the same range as the II is now...

The $3.5K was for the camera and kit lens. Initially, you couldn't really get them for less than that, whereas now retailers / e-tailers will sell them for perhaps $150-200 less than Canon's price. That's pretty standard. Anything on future cameras would be PURE speculation, not info.

The price will be what stills photographers are prepared to pay for a stills camera with its specification. The HD is an extra which increases the camera's penetration, not the major market..

I just hope the 5d mkIII is priced to reflect changes in international currency. The 5dmkII first came out in Australia at around $4500. Now, even with our dollar on parity or even ahead of the US dollar, the rrp is still $3599 and street price is not much lower.

Even if you discount the 10% GST tax then it's still way overpriced compared to the USA. And it's not like they can claim the "PAL model requires seperate manufacturing costs" bs like they do with camcorders, seeing as there is one world model.

And they wonder why we Australians buy all our products from overseas!

I expect the overall pricing to be similar (aside from exchange rate issues). There are a number of cams available that approach $1k. The 7D holds ground between $1k and $2k. The 5D takes the next tier, etc.

Then again, the D700 isn't putting any price pressure on the 5D2. And the D3x and D3s are significantly more expensive than the 1D4. It's surprising to me that the D700 and 5D2 don't have more price parity.

Around £2300 when first out, then dropped. Now about £1600-£1700 in the UK
