Posted on this yesterday at lunch.

seems that Flip is going the way of the Dodo. Shame too, I have a couple and theyre handy little tools to have on hand.

Sure, an iphone can record 720p video these days, with similar or better picture quality, but what i loved about the flip was that it was basically idiot proof, and set up in less than 3 seconds. Sometimes you ABSOLUTELY must catch a moment, and 3 seconds between your cam being in hand and you recording is valuable. Iphone cant touch that yet.

Having had to edit voxpops, candids and interviews shot on the Flip, I shall not mourn its passing.

Yes, the Flip was a simple unit, great for shooting kids in the park or on the beach. Not exactly foolproof - I was engaged to make an instruction movie on how to use the Flip - the biggest problem being that users got confused as to when the camera was recording and when it wasn't - hence lots of rushes of people's feet and inside pockets, with the end of each shot lining up to something reasonable... D'oh!

The differential between smartphone video and Flip video was closing too fast, and to smarten up the Flip would not suit it's Flip nature. It was an idea whose time is passing, and perhaps Cisco was right to wrap it up now rather than struggle on.

Though perhaps my 6yo son would disagree - who is a firm Flip fan.
