I shot my first wedding yesterday with my GH2. What a difference on a 12-hour long shoot. I normally use my EX1R as my primary camera at weddings mounted on a solid Libec tripod (read heavy!). What a difference the GH2 is. I used it on a lightweight Manfrotto tripod. It is so much easier to move around. I used the 14-140 mm. lens except for the dancing portion of the reception. I used the 20 mm f1.7 lens at 3200 ISO with one Pro light mounted high and dimmed at bit with a dimmer which worked out very well.

Yes, I'm going to all new tripod heads, my old ones are actually too big, IMO.

I bought a 701HDV Manfrotto head with 547BK legs. It comes as a kit from B&H Manfrotto 701HDV,547BK Video Tripod System Kit 701HDV,547BK B&H (http://bit.ly/dNF5nb)

A graphite or composite tripod would be even better but they are quite expensive. The one I bought is still quite lightweight and easy to handle. Whatever tripod you buy, I suggest you pick one with a ball head. It would be a problem without the ball for outdoor weddings for example where you often shoot on uneven ground. The ball makes it easy to adjust when you move around.

I bought my first 701 last week, and love it. Much more fitting than a 501hdv. I'm getting three more soon. I have big heavy tripod with a bar attached, and a 501hdv head and a 503 (all on one tripod) and when I replace the heads it will be much lighter. they just fit the weight of the camera so much better.

How is the panning? especially the beginning and end of a pan?

How funny, I just ordered that 701 kit from b&h just before i saw this thread. I mainly needed it cuz I ordered the Glidetrack SD and needed this style tripod to mount it on since my Davis & Sanford has a ballhead mount.

After you get used to the fact that it's smaller and lighter, it works fine. You need to use a lighter touch.

What the longest lens you've used successfully on it? I'm finding these inexpensive tripods like the Libec DV22 show their shortcoming with longer glass.

Btw, I rented a Manf. 504 and some fancy legs and hired a DP to shoot off it, he dialed all the drag out of the head so it was like panning on a ball bearing. Dunno if that's a common trick. I'd never do it.
