I got a GoPro HD camera and now I have some 1080p footage in mpeg4/H.264 to edit.
The low light underwater video quality is awful. Some processing is certainly needed.

I need to split the files (20-40 min each) into more manageable clips, rearrange them on a storyboard, trim, adjust gamma/contrast/saturation/... and do some basic audio cleaning. I need only basic transitions and titles/subtitles. I would also like to experiment with 3D. The results would go to Facebook, Youtube and DVD.

My computer is a modest dual 2.8GHz system with Radeon HD 5750 on PCIe (250MB/s).
I might benefit from an editor that uses the GPU as much as possible.

What editing software would you recommend?

Would Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus be a bad choice? Or Cyberlink?

I don't know if you've already ruled it out because it is a mainstream edit package, but Vegas Pro 10 has some excellent included 3D features. Also, there is a free trial.

I, too, would go with Sony's Vegas Pro 10. Very easy to ingest GoPro .mp4 files

Hi all,
To chime in here...I am a Cyberlink PowerDirector9 fan...

I am also a PD9 user. It is simple to use as long as your PC is capable of it - read the requirements section - the trial is free to use for 30 days. You will find user on their forum that use GoPro as well and with good success.

Agreed. The current version of PowerDirector (9) is very user friendly. Like all HD video editing software it's not flawless. But for the price it's hard to beat.
