So...I made a filter out of some stockings and some PVC piping.

If you wanna see what it looks like, ill post some pics if anyone asks.

What you have essentially made is is a low contrast filter. Helps to give a bit more of dynamic range and DOF in exchange for sensitivity and sharpeness.
