I thought that was an episode of "The Lucy Show" or whatever the later series was called, and the character was Mr. Mooney in a neckbrace...or maybe it was that actor playing a character in the brady bunch...I guess I disremember...my childhood seems to be a fuzzy haze with flashes of Tang, Watergate and the Brady Bunch.

COUNSELOR!!!! COUNSELOR!!! freaky movie, but I really loved it.
My vote is "Cape Fear", the remake with DeNiro. Pretty much every line he utters in that movie is quotable. The only problem is that with many of them, he is quoting them himself from various sources of text.

(BTW: the above quote I posted before this one includes a word I pulled from Robert Mitchum - "I disremember". He spoke it in the opening lines of a movie he made called "Night of the Hunter". Mitchum played DeNiro's character in the original version of "Cape Fear" - it is less grusome than the remake, but probably even more frightening. Mitchum's presence is like that. "Night of the Hunter" was kind of silly in its way, but still pretty creepy - and it was remade also, in the 80's I believe, and it starred Richard Chamberlain, but it was a total embarrassment compared to Mitchum's performance.) - sorry for the rambling

Cool, then here goes another quote. If y'all have been paying attention, this lesson will be quick and simple...now follow along children - quote to follow:

"H-A-T-E. It was with this left hand that ol' brother Cain struck the blow that layed his brother low. L-O-V-E. You see these fingers, dear hearts? These fingers had veins that run straight to the soul of man. The right hand, friends, the hand of love. Now watch and I'll show you the story of life. These fingers, dear hearts, is always a warrin' and a tuggin' - one again' t'other. Now watch 'em. Ol' brother left hand HATE's a fightin', and it looks like LOVE's a gonner...But wait a minute - WAIT A MINUTE. HOTDOG! LOVE's a winnin'! YESSIRREE! It's LOVE that won! And ol' left hand HATE is down for the count!"

-brief pause-

"I never heard it better told."

This is taken from what is likely the most singularly entertaining scene of the whole movie. If any of you have seen it but once, you will know this quote.

I have this quote memorized, but if you plug it into an internet search, you will probably find the source movie. So...extra points awarded to the guesser who can also provide an appropriate description of the visual props used by the speaker.

Is it from kingpin. If I can remember correctly bill murray has a prostetic hand and it sure looks like a quote from the mouth of bill

I could be entirely wrong but worth of guess :-)

FWIW, I think it is Woody Harrelson with the prostethic, but either way...nope, it is not Kingpin.

OHHHH!!CHRIS!!! YOU ARE SOOO CLOSE you should be able to TASTE IT!!!

But you are still a little off. The movie quote I posted is actually the original source material from which Raheem laid out his lines - sort of an homage to the character in my post. What Raheem provides is an updated 'street smart' version, but I'm still looking for the original movie.

So reach down into soul of your movie lovin' passions and....

Well, it took two throws to make that basket! Both are great movies, too.

Okay, let's see how quick this one goes... once again, think classic:

Nestor: "And another thing. Ya gotta stop sassin' them officers like ya just did."
Mike: "When are ya gonna learn, Nestor? You can say anything you want to 'em, as long as ya put 'sir' on the end of it."

A hint: Murph is on the right track. If you can boil Murph's movie down to one single word, that's what kind of movie mine is, and I don't mean a comedy.

An incentive: whoever gets this right *plus* names the actors who played these roles *plus* describes exactly what they're doing when they say those lines, gets some DV Info swag in the mail from me (overseas could take awhile).

(edit:) Holy cow, I just gave another hint in the paragraph above!

Stripes, or Taps, or Officer and a Gentleman???

Chris Hurd
August 31st, 2005, 11:14 AM
Murph, we seem to have different definitions of how old a movie has to be in order to qualify for "classic" status... in my book, nothing from the 1980's will do! But to help you out, it has something in common with Officer and Gentleman and The Last Detail but nothing in common with Stripes or Taps.

Christopher C. Murphy
August 31st, 2005, 12:12 PM
Oh, I'm with you on Classics...70's and before almost always. It was just wild guessing on my part. But, as much as I don't really like 80's movies up until now...there isn't a lot of great films to chose from. Here are some early 80's "classics" in my opinion. Maybe up until about 1984...things after that really went south. So yeah, "early" 80's "classics"? Tell me what you think..

The Shining - 1980
Raging Bull - 1980
The Elephant Man - 1980
Terminator - 1984
ET- 1982
The Big Chill - 1983
Raiders of the Lost Ark - 1981
Amadeus - 1983
The Outsiders - 1983

I know, off topic from our "quotes"...sorry! I'm pretty much out of guesses on your quote....one last guess is "PATTON"?????

Chris Hurd
August 31st, 2005, 12:24 PM
Start a new thread for off-topic stuff!

"The Last Detail" and "Officer and a Gentleman" have something in common with each other (as well as the movie my quote is from) but not with Taps, Stripes, or Patton. Or Battle of the Bulge or Kelly's Heroes or Platoon. However it would have something in common with Top Gun. Now what could that be?

Barry Gribble

A Few Good Men?

power rangers the movie?, that movie rocks !! :p:p:p

Chris Hurd
August 31st, 2005, 01:12 PM
Another hint: it was made sometime during the 1950's.

Has something in common with The Last Detail, An Officer And A Gentleman, and Top Gun.

Nothing in common with Taps, Stripes, or Patton. Or Battle of the Bulge or Kelly's Heroes or Platoon. A Few Good Men... if you need a ruling, well call it a no. There is an inportant clue in my paragraph about the swag.

Somebody out there has seen this movie. It's been on late night television hundreds of times. It starred a couple of A-list actors from that decade and won an Academy award, so it's not all that obscure.

So a war movie with prisoners in a camp that tries to escape then.. From the 50s..

When is " the great escape" from? Could it be that one?

Alfred Okocha

Ha, Murphy..You beat me to it. I was thinking about that one but decided I couldn't spell Kwai.. Good luck, hehe.

Chris Hurd

Think of one common element that's present in The Last Detail, An Officer And A Gentleman, and Top Gun. It ain't prisoners.

Academy award winner, A-list actors, in color, made in the '50's, not about World War Two.

Nestor: "And another thing. Ya gotta stop sassin' them officers like ya just did."
Mike: "When are ya gonna learn, Nestor? You can say anything you want to 'em, as long as ya put 'sir' on the end of it."

Christopher C. Murphy

Paths to Glory?? That's about WWI, but it's in black and white!

It has a Jack Nicolson connection, but Top Gun and O. & a Gentleman?!

Chris Hurd
August 31st, 2005, 03:28 PM
I didn't say it has a Jack Nicholson connection... I said it has something in common with a Jack Nicholson movie, The Last Detail. Once again, if you had to boil The Last Detail down into one word, what would it be? It's a "______" movie, just like An Officer And A Gentleman and Top Gun are also "______" movies.

Keith Loh

I think I know the theme and the quote sounds familiar.

"The Sand Pebbles"?

Chris Hurd
August 31st, 2005, 03:50 PM
I like the way you think, Keith. Sand Pebbles is one of my favorite movies of all times. Plenty of good quotes from McQueen and other great actors... a classic if there ever was one. But Sand Pebbles was made in 1966, and my movie is from the 1950's.

It's a "____" movie, just like The Last Detail, An Officer And A Gentleman, Top Gun, Sand Pebbles and In Harm's Way are also "____" movies (but not Taps, Stripes, Patton, A Bridge Too Far, Platoon or Paths of Glory).

Excellent movies all, but none are correct! Maybe you guys need some more dialog:

Mike: "My hat and scarf, please."

Nestor: "Can't ya wait til we get off the ship? What if the Captain had seen ya?"

Mike: "We don't save captains, Nestor, we save pilots. When they're down there in the icy water with only minutes to live, it makes 'em feel awful good to look up here and see this green hat."

Nestor: "And another thing. Ya gotta stop sassin' them officers like ya just did."

Mike: "When are ya gonna learn, Nestor? You can say anything you want to 'em, as long as ya put 'sir' on the end of it."
