Strike one, dear Jon. Try again. :)

Hey, while I have you here...why don't you join us for the DVC/UWOL Charity Challenge upstairs? We haven't seen a J Jones film in a long, long time!

Hey, while I have you here...why don't you join us for the DVC/UWOL Charity Challenge upstairs? We haven't seen a J Jones film in a long, long time!

I so want to, and have been hoping to get back into the ring for quite a while, but have been unable to get a workable schedule that would allow for it for a long time. I dropped off the map for much of the last 2 years to tend to family medical issues - and then subsequently trying, and sometimes failing to resurrect dormant projects and juggle client deadlines. But after 2010 closes out, my schedule is expected to free up considerably, and I can look forward to jumping into some upcoming challenges.

Good to hear that 2011 sounds less hectic and stressful. Just know that you've been missed.

Guess we should get back to the game! Here's the quote again:

You left...just when you were becoming interesting.

Another quote, same character:

I suddenly remembered my Charlemagne. Let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky...

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?

I believe that is the movie but I'm trying really hard to block it :-)

That's it. Your turn.

Garrett Low

OK, I don't know if this one has been done before. I did a quick search and didn't find it.

"You wanna be president? Lemme tell you the first rule of politics; Always know if the juice is worth the squeeze."

Might be an easy one but it's a line that popped in my head.

Bill Thesken

Nobody answered, so I looked at the boxofficemojo.com list of 'President' type movies and will make a guess based on the 'outsider' tone of the quote:
'Man of the Year'

Garrett Low
December 12th, 2010, 05:46 PM
Sorry Bill. Think along the story line of Risky Business but made after 2000.

OK here's some more lines:

Ferrari: I know I lost my virginity at prom. How about you? When did you lose your virginity?
April: When I was ten.
Ferrari: Okay, moving on...

and

Eli: Okay, you know what the three of us are? We're a tripod.
Klitz: A tripod?
Eli: Yes, a tripod. Which means that if you knock out one of our legs, WE-ALL-FALL!

These characters are not the same as the one that said the line in my first clue.

No idea, sounds like a highschool coming of age movie which is a genre im not so clued up on.

Andy.

Garrett Low
January 19th, 2011, 11:11 AM
Andy, you're on the right track. There are actually two movies that I know of with this exact title. One made in 2007 is based on a Jack Ketchum novel and is a very dark drama. Then there is the movie that these quotes are from, a 2004, coming of age comedy.

Actually, this one has been sitting here far too long--since Dec. 9. Andy, since you responded last why don't you post a new quote and we'll try to get things rolling again.

Andy Graham
January 21st, 2011, 03:33 AM
Ok before i go what was the answer to the last one Garrett?

Right next quote is...

" What day is it, anyway? Monday? Huh? The hell it is. It's Sunday. Sunday I always dress for dinner."

Andy, I thought someone would jump in by now. Must not be many stopping by these days.

Here's an easy one that may get the game rolling again:

Character 1: It doesn't bother you? Killing all those people?

Character 2: Well, I wouldn't be very good at my job if it did.

Jonathan Jones

I've been stopping by. I've just been beset by a protracted plague of intellectual paralysis. These last several rounds (including this one) are uncomfortably humbling to me.

Perhaps there are others lurking as well. And if they're like me.....well, I just know that I have no guesses of notable merit to offer.

Keep 'em coming.

Film release 2006. This quote should give it away:

I have two pair and you have 17.4% chance of making your straight.

Last clue before turning it over to someone else. You'll have killing, Poker, and romance from which to guess, if you haven't seen the movie:

Character 1: You love me?

Character 2: Enough to travel the world with you until one of us has to take an honest job...which I think is going to have to be you, because I have no idea what an honest job is.

Okay, I never saw this film in its entirety. (I'm quite behind on this series), but I saw bits and pieces on TNT, including this scene.

I'm pretty sure this is the recent version of "Casino Royale".

Whew! I did everything short of posting, "The name's Bond...James Bond." :)

Go, Jonathon!

Mark Watson

okay, old thread but anyways:

"That's some face they left hangin' off ya."

Mark Koha
August 4th, 2013, 08:30 AM
Is that from Rocky?

Mark Watson
August 4th, 2013, 09:41 PM
Rocky? Nope, that's a big negative there Ghostrider. But I like your guess!

Chris Hurd

Don't know what that quote is from, but thanks for bringing back a classic DVi thread!

Mark Watson

A hint: The quote was by an actor who also played in "The Shining".

Eric Emerick
August 7th, 2013, 08:31 AM
I'll bite, maybe "As Good As It Gets"?

Mark Watson
August 7th, 2013, 09:11 AM
You are correct, Sir. As Good as it Gets, quote from Jack Nicholson character, Melvin, to Greg Kinear, who had just been severely beaten and robbed.

You're up!

Eric Emerick
August 7th, 2013, 09:15 AM
OK, try this one: "I began to see a way - a terrible way - I could finally triumph over God, my torturer."

Eric Emerick
August 7th, 2013, 08:53 PM
another quote, different character:

"Yes, yes! You don't know where you are! Here, everything goes backwards. People walk backwards, dance backwards, sing backwards, and even talk backwards."

Eric Emerick
August 9th, 2013, 06:55 PM
OK, one more hint, then I'll try again but I think this will tip the scale. It's a Best Film Academy Award winner.

Eric Emerick
August 11th, 2013, 09:53 PM
The answer is....Amadeus. OK, maybe I should go a bit more current. "Oh Jesus, no. The appearance of law must be upheld, especially while it's being broken."

Eric Emerick
August 13th, 2013, 10:43 AM
2nd clue: "The Native Americans holds the Five Points. We have prevailed. What you do outside the Points is your deciding."

Mark Koha
August 13th, 2013, 08:24 PM
Gangs of New York?

Eric Emerick
August 13th, 2013, 08:27 PM
That is correct. You may proceed sir.

Chris Hurd

I'm afraid Mark has missed out on his turn, so I guess it's up to me. Here you go:

*gunshots*

(from a distance) "Any trouble, boy?"

"No, old man. Thought I was having trouble with my adding. It's all right now."

John Hewat
September 6th, 2013, 07:38 AM
For a Few Dollars More; one of my very favourites.

Chris Hurd
September 14th, 2013, 09:59 AM
Been busy with IBC updates; meant to check this much earlier!

The deal is, John, when you know you've aced the quote, then you just go ahead and offer up one of your own. You can still do that, but here's another one which I bet you'll get:

Again, the Old West. One man meets three others. Notices only three horses. He says:

"You bring a horse for me?"

Laughter. "Looks like we're shy one horse." More laughter.

Shaking his head, he replies "You brought two too many."

Mark Koha
September 17th, 2013, 07:27 PM
No idea. I'm assuming a western.

John Hewat
September 17th, 2013, 08:09 PM
Sorry, I'm hopeless at checking back here regularly.

That's an easy one, the greatest opening scene to a movie ever.

Once Upon a Time in the West.

I'll offer the next quote:

"You know when you smile like that you do look like Jack Lemon."

David Knaggs
March 20th, 2014, 04:14 PM
I was chuckling at this the other day and can't resist quoting it here (sorry if I'm out of turn):

"Yes, but no more 1966. Let's splurge! Bring us some fresh wine. The freshest you've got. This year. No more of this old stuff."

David Knaggs
March 22nd, 2014, 05:01 PM
Here's some more dialogue from this 1970s comedy movie:

"Son, now that you're going out into the world, there is something you should know. You see that? (points at manure) That's ___. (pulls out can from pocket) And this. Shinola."

"____. Shinola."

"Son, you're gonna be all right!"

Chris Hurd
March 22nd, 2014, 05:43 PM
I am intrigued. Any takers?

You might need to pull a few more quotes, David!

Mark Watson
March 22nd, 2014, 07:11 PM
Not sure. Is it from Steve Martin in "The Jerk"?

Mark

David Knaggs
March 22nd, 2014, 07:51 PM
Bingo!

Your turn, Mark.

Mark Watson
March 22nd, 2014, 08:18 PM
A: "I got a job for ya."
B: "Well, if the pay's right and it's legal, I'll do it."
A: "It's not strictly legal."
B: "Well, if the pay's right, I'll do it."

Mark Watson

Here's another quote:

"Now, in Russia they got it mapped out so that everyone pulls for everyone else. Well, that's the theory anyway. But what I know about is Texas, .... and down here, you're on your own."

Hmm. sounds like a Coen Brothers movie... an early Coen Brothers movie.
