Jonathan Jones September 4th, 2010, 02:48 PM Hint: Directed by Terry Gilliam. Includes De Niro in a small but pivotal role. -Jon Jonathan Jones September 5th, 2010, 11:14 AM Final hint: The name of the film is "Brazil". That will probably make this one easy to guess. This one is up for grabs. -Jon Casey Krugman September 6th, 2010, 10:03 AM Uh... Was it the X-Files Movie? No Wait... Barney's Magical Adventure! Yep, I rock... Bill Thesken September 6th, 2010, 12:59 PM Okay it's 'Brazil' Here's some lines from a movie that's been showing on AMC lately. Might not be exact as I'm pulling it from memory. X: "Aint there nothing we can do?" (pause) Y: "You can be men." (slowly) Z: "Mr._________, you're scarin' the boys." Jonathan Jones September 6th, 2010, 01:05 PM Sound like "The Cowboys" with John Wayne. I am pretty sure that's been running on AMC recently. -Jon Bill Thesken September 6th, 2010, 01:07 PM Dang, that was quick! You're up Jon. Jonathan Jones September 6th, 2010, 01:11 PM I can't remember for sure whether or not this one was posted before (a long time ago) but in any case: "He's just killing my alligator bags and shooting holes in my suits. Man, that's just MEAN. That's MEAN, man. " -Jon Jonathan Jones September 7th, 2010, 01:16 PM Okay, first hint: The quoted line is spoken by James Coburn in an uncredited role. -Jon Garrett Low September 8th, 2010, 02:58 PM hmm, is that from Payback with Mel Gibson? -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 8th, 2010, 03:00 PM It IS from "Payback" with Mel Gibson. Just in time, too, because I was about to post the next giveaway hint. Your turn. -Jon Garrett Low September 8th, 2010, 11:08 PM OK. I don't know if this one has been done yet. I did a quick search and couldn't find it. "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." One of those observations that's just so true. -Garrett Garrett Low September 10th, 2010, 08:16 AM No guesses yet? Anybody want a hint? -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 10th, 2010, 08:47 AM No guesses yet? Anybody want a hint? -Garrett Sad to say so, but yeah. I got nothin'. -Jon Garrett Low September 10th, 2010, 10:14 AM OK, this is from a 1997 block buster that had Rip Torn and Linda Fiorentino in it, they were not the stars but they both had roles in the movie. -Garrett Garrett Low September 10th, 2010, 08:30 PM OK, here's another quote: Female Character: "You here to make fun of me too?" Same Character As Original Quote: "No, ma'am. We at the FBI do not have a sense of humor we're aware of. May we come in?" Female Character: "Sure." -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 10th, 2010, 08:32 PM OK, here's another quote: Female Character: "You here to make fun of me too?" Same Character As Original Quote: "No, ma'am. We at the FBI do not have a sense of humor we're aware of. May we come in?" Female Character: "Sure." -Garrett AHH OK, this is then followed by a scene discussing the "Edgar suit"? -Jon Garrett Low September 10th, 2010, 08:44 PM You're on to it Jonathan. -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 10th, 2010, 10:24 PM Then it is "Men in Black". -Jon Garrett Low September 10th, 2010, 10:53 PM You got it Jonathan. Men In Black had a surprising number of good quotes. Your turn. -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 11th, 2010, 12:49 AM Okay, here goes the next one: (from a movie that probably really doesn't merit quoting, but here it is nonetheless.) "All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom. So grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you! " Difficult to choose since none of the lines really stand out from any of the others. Once this one is guessed, you'll likely know why. -Jon Bill Thesken September 11th, 2010, 01:11 AM It's one of the Conan the Barbarian movies. I'm not sure which one though. Jonathan Jones September 11th, 2010, 09:59 AM It's one of the Conan the Barbarian movies. I'm not sure which one though. Sorry to do this, but you have to guess.....which one. (You have a 50/50 chance.) -Jon Bill Thesken September 11th, 2010, 11:47 AM Alright, I'll guess 'Conan the Barbarian', since that theme seemed to be more revenge than the 'Destroyer' movie. I also seem to remember the 'to Hell with you' line from the first one, so final answer - 'Conan the Barbarian'............. Jonathan Jones September 11th, 2010, 07:06 PM Ding ding ding ding. "Conan the Barbarian" it is. You're move, Bill. -Jon Bill Thesken September 12th, 2010, 11:08 AM Step up to the tub, 'tain't no disgrace. Just pull up your sleeves and get 'em in place. Then scoop up the water and rub it on your face . And go "Blub, blub, blub, blub blub!" Lorinda Norton September 12th, 2010, 11:57 AM Step up to the tub, 'tain't no disgrace. Just pull up your sleeves and get 'em in place. Then scoop up the water and rub it on your face . And go "Blub, blub, blub, blub blub!" Love it! But how many people besides me are going to admit to knowing this one? :) Garrett Low September 12th, 2010, 01:44 PM Love it! But how many people besides me are going to admit to knowing this one? :) I know it but I'm not going to admit to it. If anyone asks I'll just deny it. -Garrett Bill Thesken September 13th, 2010, 12:16 AM C'mon now. Line for line, scene for scene, one of the best productions of all time. Can you imagine Ted Sears & Co. writing this screenplay in 1935 or so? Claim it if you know it. Lorinda Norton September 13th, 2010, 02:31 AM Oh, all right...if you insist. :) Thanks for the smile, I haven't seen SNOW WHITE in a long time. Here goes another quote involving a group just a little larger than the seven dwarfs: One: down to the road block, we've just begun Two: the guards are through Three: the Major's men are on a spree... Lorinda Norton September 14th, 2010, 11:23 AM Must not be any old war movie fans checking this thread. Sixteen steps for this "interesting" group of Soldiers to memorize and execute without fail. Film dated 1967; huge cast of well-known actors, one of whom was Lee Marvin. Antti Kangas September 14th, 2010, 05:12 PM It's The Dirty Dozen. Here's one: [person]: Hey [main character]! You get this parking ticket in front of my airport? [main character]: Yeah. [person tears ticket up] [person]: Ah, what the hell; it's Christmas! ---AOK-- Jonathan Jones September 14th, 2010, 08:49 PM It's The Dirty Dozen. Here's one: [person]: Hey [main character]! You get this parking ticket in front of my airport? [main character]: Yeah. [person tears ticket up] [person]: Ah, what the hell; it's Christmas! ---AOK-- Sounds like "Die Hard 2 - Die Harder" -Jon Antti Kangas September 15th, 2010, 01:05 PM Correct! Directed by the fellow Finn Lauri Harjola, also know as Renny Harlin. You're up. --AOK-- Jonathan Jones September 16th, 2010, 04:23 PM Correct! Directed by the fellow Finn Lauri Harjola, also know as Renny Harlin. You're up. --AOK-- Okay, here's one from one of the more laughable action films of the 1980s. Character 1: "C'mon man! I got a bomb here. I'll kill her! I'll blow this whole place up!" Character 2: "Go ahead. I don't shop here." -Jon Jonathan Jones September 20th, 2010, 01:45 AM Okay, here's one from one of the more laughable action films of the 1980s. Character 1: "C'mon man! I got a bomb here. I'll kill her! I'll blow this whole place up!" Character 2: "Go ahead. I don't shop here." -Jon Okay, time for some hints: Hint One; The laughable nature of this film is entirely unintentional, and results from a combination of poor dialogue, overly stereotypical characterizations, almost comically overly dramatic visuals, and a curious mixture of overacting and underacting at the same time. Hint Two: The long-time action film star of this film later went on to co-star in "Stop! or My Mom Will Shoot". -Jon Andy Graham September 20th, 2010, 02:21 AM Im thinking Cobra , although i dont really remember the quote its the only time i can think of that Sly is in a shop Andy Jonathan Jones September 20th, 2010, 08:46 AM Im thinking Cobra... Andy And you are correct. You're up. -Jon Andy Graham September 20th, 2010, 09:04 AM ok heres a classic.... character 1: You mean people could actually stay down there for a hundred years? character 2: It would not be difficult, Mein Führer. Nuclear reactors could - heh, I'm sorry, Mr. President - nuclear reactors could provide power almost indefinitely. I dont expect this to last long, its one of the all time great comedies from a genius of a director Andy Garrett Low September 20th, 2010, 10:13 AM One of my favorite movies and one that I've quoted from before. Dr. Strange Love or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. One of the greatest comedies ever. -Garrett Andy Graham September 20th, 2010, 10:29 AM the floor is yours Garrett Garrett Low September 20th, 2010, 12:29 PM Ok, This one is probably pretty easy: "Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear ******** tell it, anybody could have worked for ****. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone." The *'s are two separate names of characters in the movie that would make it way too easy. -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 20th, 2010, 01:17 PM Ok, This one is probably pretty easy: "Nobody believed he was real. -Garrett I'm almost positive that it's "The Usual Suspects". Great movie. -Jon Garrett Low September 20th, 2010, 01:30 PM You can be positive Jonathan. It is indeed The Usual Suspects. One of those movies that I seem to always stop on even though I've already seen it a hundred times. Jonathan is up. Garrett Jonathan Jones September 22nd, 2010, 11:54 PM Ok, Here it goes: Character 1: "You're note Martin." Character 2: "No." Character 1: "Who are you?" Character 2: "I don't have a name." Character 1: "Sad. Will you have a name when we get home?" Character 2: "I don't have a home." -Jon Andy Graham September 23rd, 2010, 11:06 AM do you mean "you're not martin" ? or is he asking for martins note ? Jonathan Jones September 23rd, 2010, 12:12 PM do you mean "you're not martin" ? or is he asking for martins note ? I apologize for that. I mis-typed that line. The appropriate lines are: Character 1: "You're not Martin." Character 2: "No." Character 1: "Who are you?" Character 2: "I don't have a name." Character 1: "Sad. Will you have a name when we get home?" Character 2: "I don't have a home." -Jon Jonathan Jones September 24th, 2010, 12:06 AM I was debating about either dropping more quotes, or offering a hint. I'll offer a simple hint: Character 1 in the above-mentioned quote is played by Elizabeth Shue. -Jon Jonathan Jones September 28th, 2010, 02:25 PM Okay, time for another quote from the same movie. Same characters as the earlier quote, but in reverse order: Character 1: "What are those, drugs? Could I have one? My head is pounding. She's boring the life out of me." Character 2: "They're for my heart." Character 1: "Oh. You have very pretty eyes... pretty lady." Character 2: "Who are you?" Character 1: "Hmm? I'm here to do an interview with uh Dr. Russell. I'm gonna expose her as a fraud. You don't put any stock this cold fusion mumbo jumbo, do ya? " Character 2: "Actually, I do." -Jon Garrett Low September 28th, 2010, 05:30 PM AHH. That's The Saint with Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue. I must have been subconsciously blocking it. -Garrett Jonathan Jones September 28th, 2010, 05:44 PM AHH. That's The Saint with Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue. I must have been subconsciously blocking it. -Garrett Indeed. That's what I figured - - Despite a fun performance by Val Kilmer, "The Saint" is quite simply a very forgettable film, and that's why I picked it to quote from. I figured it would be a bit of a challenge. Especially because much of the dialogue is intentionally diversionary - The main character self-references as a different persona in almost every scene, and if you haven't seen the film, much of the dialogue would seem quite confusing. I had a series of similar quotes from similar exchanges in the film, but figured I didn't want to prolong this one any longer, and opted for one that referenced the cold fusion, easier to remember for those who have seen the film. -Jon |
