You got it Dimitri - Take it away!

here's a short one

"And when it's stopped being random, that's when it started to go wrong."

Daniel Bates

I'm pretty sure I've never seen the movie, but could you give another hint for the benefit of those of us who have?

Lorinda Norton
November 15th, 2009, 12:57 AM
Hey Daniel,

Since Dimitri doesn't seem to be around why don't you go ahead with a quote? :)

Daniel Bates
November 15th, 2009, 09:01 PM
Your wish is my command!

Character 1: Why aren't you shooting?
Character 2: We're not being shot at yet.
Character 1: How can you tell?
Character 2: A hiss means it's close. A snap means...
(snap)
Character 2: Now they're shooting at us.

Lorinda Norton
November 16th, 2009, 11:21 PM
I've seen this movie! Now if I can remember which one it is...

Until it hits me or you provide another clue I'll go with a guess: The Outlaw Josey Wales?

Jonathan Jones
November 16th, 2009, 11:28 PM
I'm with you, Lorinda. It's bugging me that I can't figure it out, though I know I've seen it, and I think I even know the scene, but I can't see the faces or think of which movie it is in my head.

But I think it is something else. I gotta think on it some more.

I was half-thinking Black Hawk Down.

Andy Graham
November 17th, 2009, 04:42 PM
based on the quote they obviously cant fire unless fired upon which suggests a more modern war like iraq or (as matt said) somalia so id agree with matt on that one.

Matt got it first! It is indeed Black Hawk Down - one of my favourite books, and a pretty good movie too.

Lorinda Norton
November 18th, 2009, 12:40 AM
Oh wow. It's been way too long since I watched Black Hawk Down for me to have possibly remembered that quote. I must have been recalling something else.

Good job, Matt!

Matt Buys

Oh sweet movie qoute game gods, I feel redeemed. Last time I posted I mistook a Shirley Maclaine line from the Apartment for a Bukowski line from Barfly. It hurt for months.

Blackhawk down is a great movie and I forgot it was based on a book. Makes for some good thanksgiving reading. Okay, I'll fire off with one of my favorite's.

"I too have dabbled in pacificism, not in 'Nam of course."

David you got it. Thought it would be a dead give away being it just came out. Epic Movie!

Daniel Bates

What's next, Scott?

Chris Hurd
December 20th, 2009, 08:11 PM
David won the last round, but I think he's probably too busy with work or family at the moment to offer up the next quote. So I'll do it... and I'll make it an easy one, just to get the ball rolling again. In this case, name the actor as well as the movie in order to claim the round.

Dwight: "I know a thing or two about a thing or two."

Joel Summers
January 5th, 2010, 09:49 AM
That would be "This Boy's Life".

Chris Hurd
January 5th, 2010, 10:14 AM
Great first post, Joel. The round is now yours!

Joel Summers
January 5th, 2010, 10:59 AM
Raymond Hurdicure: So I hear dad's dead. Hey, is that egg nog?

Its a great movie BTW...

Good Luck.

Hey Cole--this thing's been sitting here far too long. Maybe choose a new quote for us?

Lorinda Norton
August 16th, 2010, 10:22 PM
Hmm...apparently, Cole isn't checking in, so I'm going to post a new quote and we'll see if we can get this thing moving. If you've seen this movie it's an easy one.

"It's a matter of professional integrity! No girl wants to marry a doctor who can't tell if a man's dead or not!"

David Seguin
August 17th, 2010, 08:07 PM
Sherlock Holmes!

Lorinda Norton
August 17th, 2010, 08:47 PM
Yep! It's all yours, David!

David Seguin
August 17th, 2010, 09:40 PM
This is probably a hard(ish) one. But I made sure to pick something that had a built-in hint. :) Good luck!

"Discretion? Why should we hide, XXXXXXX? We are the powerful. We are the immortal. We should walk fearless in the open."

"Discretion? Why should we hide, XXXXXXX? We are the powerful. We are the immortal. We should walk fearless in the open."

If no one takes a guess soon I'll replace the Xs with the actual name. I've never heard of anyone else by that name, so if you've seen the movie it would be a dead giveaway.

Jonathan Jones
August 18th, 2010, 03:40 PM
Based on the quote, it sounds obvious to me as a vampire movie, but I fear it may be one of the more recent such films, none of which I have seen, so I'm just going to take a stab in the dark on this one and guess one that is still just a little bit older. I'll guess "Blade: Trinity".

David Seguin
August 18th, 2010, 05:55 PM
Nope. Actually, I think it's older than "Blade: Trinity". I'm not sure but I think it was released in 2001

John Hewat

I have no idea, I just thought I'd chime in and say that Cole's unanswered quote was from one of my favourite moments of David Lynch's Mulholland Dr.

David Seguin
August 19th, 2010, 03:42 PM
Well, since I'm feeling generous today, I'll give two hints:

1. The name of the character who's name I replaced with "XXXXXX" is "Marius"
2. The movie is based on a novel by the same name, the author of which is one of the most popular writers of modern gothic fiction, though of late (after her re-conversion to Christianity) she has been writing only Christian fiction.

Jonathan Jones
August 19th, 2010, 03:59 PM
Okay, well I'm sorry it came to having to give hints that practically gave it away - but I'd not likely have guessed it otherwise. I completely forgot about that movie.

It is "Queen of the Damned". Part of "The Vampire Chronicles", authored by Anne Rice.

Loved this, John. Closure is always good. :)

Carry on, Jon!

Jonathan Jones
August 20th, 2010, 06:22 PM
Okay, here's the next one:

"You can't let bad things happen to good people, right? That's your code, right?... That's the hero's code?"

The next few sentences are almost a giveaway, so I'll hold off of them for now and see if that's enough to guess with.

-Jon

David Seguin
August 20th, 2010, 06:49 PM
Damn....I know this one...I just can't place it! Sooo frustrating! I can almost hear the voice of the character speaking it!

David Seguin
August 20th, 2010, 06:50 PM
I'm just gonna take a random guess even though I know I'm probably wrong...

Hancock?

Jonathan Jones
August 21st, 2010, 11:54 AM
It is not "Hancock". Sorry.

Jonathan Jones

Hint: The above quoted line is spoken by a boy, speaking to the main character of the film.

Next hint: The boy speaking the line is the son of the main character.

Y'all are killin' me here. Okay, here's an extension of the quoted lines.

character 1: "You can't let bad things happen to good people, right? That's your code, right?... That's the hero's code?

I tried to make them stop, but they kept pushing me down and they wouldn't let me get back up.
I... I thought maybe 'cause you were my dad.... I thought I might be like you.

I'm not like you."

character 2: "You are like me. We can both get hurt. I'm just an ordinary man."

character 1: "No you're not. Why do you keep SAYING that?"

If no one guesses it after this one, I'm about to get a whole lot more obvious with the clues.

-Jon

Jonathan Jones

Dead give away clue. If no one guesses after this one, then the next clue will be the actual name of the movie:

The movie quoted from above stars Bruce Willis, in a very subdued, moody role.
