you got it right Jonathan. It indeed is from the 1976 Neil Simon movie, Murder By Death.

Your turn.

This is one of my favorite movies! I loved Peter Sellers in his role as Sidney Wang. One of the best exchanges for me:

"I don't get something, Pop. Was there a murder or wasn't there?"

"Yes. Killed good weekend. Drive, please."

Garrett Low

Yeah, there are so many great lines from that movie. But what else would you expect when you have a cast that includes Peter Sellers, David Niven, Alec Guinness, Peter Falk and Truman Capote. The exchanges that they have are incredible. I would have loved to be on the set to watch all of them interact with each other as they were working.

Here's a bonus question. What other movie had Peter Sellers and David Niven along with another American born Author in it?

Ooh! The Pink Panther.....um....Revenge of the Pink Panther? No! The Pink Panther Strikes Again? As for the author, I don't know.

I was going to 2nd the Pink Panther. I am pretty sure that Niven played a role that was reprised by someone else in the sequels.

But the first one that came to mind for me was "Casino Royale". As I recall, there were a few variations of "Bond" in that one - even one played by Woody Allen (as Jimmy Bond).

PS: I believe I am up to bat, so I will post a quote in a few minutes.

Good call Jonathan. It was Casino Royal. Orson Wells played Le Chiffre.

Sorry for my delay. Here is the new quote:

Character 1: "The fourth victim, Jonathan Masbeth."

Character 2: "I see. And the head?"

Character 3: "Taken."

Character 2: "Taken. Interesting. Very Interesting."

Character 4: "What is?"

Character 2: "In headless corpse cases of this sort, the head was removed to prevent identification of the body."

Character 4: "But we know this was Jonathan Masbeth."

Character 2: "Precisely. So why was the head removed?"

Character 4: "Why?"

Character 2: "Right." (pause) "You have moved the body?"

Character 1: "I did."

Character 2: "You must never move the body!"

Character 1: "Why not?"

Character 2: "Because."

Which version specifically, Paul? Heh.

The Johnny Depp version?

Jonathan Jones

The Johnny Depp version?

Yep, according to imdb, the only other ones with the exact matching title dated back to the silent film era. Most versions included the full traditional title of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", (and a few variants) some of which were made for TV.

"Sleepy Hollow", the '99 version with Johnny Depp, it is.

You're up, Paul.

Quote 1:

Character 1: What have you done, [Character 2]?
Character 2: About six months... but I'm on probation, so it's all good, baby!
Character 1: No, I mean, what do you do best?
Character 2: I can't do that here. That's why they put me away, baby!

Quote 2:

Character 3: I am the author. You are the audience. I outrank you!

I know I've seen this, but I can't place it exactly.

It wouldn't happen to be "Waiting for Guffman" would it? (The scene in which the director is recruiting the young man at the auto shop? - although I doubt myself because the term "baby" seems out of place for the character.)

Garrett Low
August 4th, 2009, 12:02 PM
Here's one that might be a little difficult.

Character 1: You're sure trying hard to make a hero out of me.

Character 2: You're that already. You just need a special act, something that'll make your name a legend.

Character 1: What I don't understand is what difference it makes to you.

Charachter 2: If a man is a man, he needs someone to believe in.

Character 1: I've met all kinds in my life. Thieves and killers. Pimps and prostitutes. Con men and preachers. Even a few fellas that told the truth. The kind of man you're talking about, never.

I'm not speaking for anyone else here, but I personally hate wimping out for hints - but at the same time, I got "nuthin'." I'm coming up empty on this one. If no one sounds off with a good answer soon, then maybe a hint might be in order - such as year or genre.... or both.

Garrett Low

O.K. I thought this would either be a really easy one or a hard one. Guess I may have finally found one that's a little more difficult.

Hints:
Sergio Leone was one of the writers

Released in the US in 1974 (additional hint there)

and here's another line containing one of the characters names:

Character 1: I see it clear as crystal. Jack Beauregard standing alone, facing the Wild Bunch. Just think of it. You'll be written up in all the history books.

Jack Beauregard: You'll be down on Earth reading them while I'm up there playing on a harp.

Maybe that will jog some memories.

Is that it?

Thinking along the right lines, Spaghetti Western, but it doesn't have Clint in it. Jack Beauregard was played by a very famous Academy Award winning actor.

Along the same lines then...

Actor #1: "Sixteen... seventeen... twenty-two. Twenty-two?"

(gunfire)

Actor #1: "Twenty-seven."

Actor #2: "Any trouble, boy?"

Actor #1: "No, old man. Thought I was having trouble with my adding. It's all right now."

This is probably too easy. I also just re-read the very first post where it's okay to 'X' a name.

"I'm XXXXX the Masochist. I live here. My friend is close to death and we need to get him in the water."

Here's a fun one:

King: I am your king.

Woman: Well I didn't vote for you.

King: You don't vote for kings.

Woman: Well how'd you become king then?

King: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king.

Dennis: Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Somewhat easy, if you're into the movie:

Character 1: Yeah, they got nice homes over there.. you got a pool over there?
Character 2: Yes. We have a pool.... Pool and a pond. Pond would be good for you.
Character 1: Yeah pool/pond whatever.
