Jonathan Jones April 25th, 2008, 02:23 AM "Married to the Mob" ? -Jon Jonathan Jones April 25th, 2008, 02:24 AM or maybe "Johnny Dangerously" ? -Jon Josh Chesarek April 25th, 2008, 02:27 AM or maybe "Johnny Dangerously" ? -Jon I figured that would do it ;) "I know what you could't say... You want to hump your brains out! Vavoom Vavoom Vavoom!" Tiss your turn! Jonathan Jones April 25th, 2008, 02:40 AM I figured that would do it ;) I'll even go one further with a note about how screwed up my mind works with these old movies. #3286 "What is that" you ask? #3286 was the stock number for the VHS copy of "Johnny Dangerously" in the video rental store I worked at in the 80s. I memorized the stock numbers of hundreds of the movies (occupational hazard) and 20 years later, whenever a movie title that we stocked comes up in conversation, I tend to blurt out the stock number before I even realize it. Yeah, I suffer from intermittent OCD issues. Now here is a quote from stock number #3245. "Give me the amulet, you b**ch!" (Note: the '**' word is edited for content to keep the post 'clean'. This is not considered one of the more notable quotes from the film, but certainly a slightly controversial one considering the person to whom the character was speaking.) -Jon Jonathan Jones April 26th, 2008, 01:03 PM I rambled and strayed in the previous post. Let me try again by just posting the new quote and relevant info: "Give me the amulet, you b**ch!" (Note: the '**' word is edited for content to keep the post 'clean'. This is not considered one of the more notable quotes from the film, but certainly a slightly controversial one considering the person to whom the character was speaking.) -Jon Kelly Goden April 26th, 2008, 07:49 PM I assume its the Monster Squad? "My name...is Horace!" Dracula talking to a little girl. They dont make Draculas like they used to. I only recall Duncan Regeher from V, but he did a decent enough Dracula. Fast forward to Van Helsing and Blade 3. Possibly the worst Draculas ever on screen. Jonathan Jones April 26th, 2008, 08:44 PM I assume its the Monster Squad? "My name...is Horace!" Dracula talking to a little girl. Ding Ding Ding. "The Monster Squad" it is. I guess the line "Wolfman's got nards" was probably the most marketable of the movie's quotes, but the amulet quote spoken by Dracula was most impressive, I think, for its shock value. This was a movie that suffered from lack of a specific target audience. It was necessarily scary enough to be a bona-fide horror film although there were some very good scary images. It wasn't really a comedy although there were a lot of points where the dialogue was intended to get a laugh from the audience. It wasn't really a goonie-style kids movie even though it is centered around kids who save the world. Even the use of language and gore effects prevented it from being accepted as family fare in the 1980s - although probably more acceptable as family fare today. The amulet line was very effective for two reasons. Up to that point, the dracula character wasn't REALLY all that terrifying. But when he picked up the five year old girl by the throat and screamed that line in her face, it felt kinda horrifying. According to the DVD extras, Duncan generally didn't wear his fake teeth or red eye contacts on set when the little girl was around because he didn't want to scare her. In order to get a genuinely frightened reaction from her for this scene, it was the first time she would see him in full makeup. So when he hissed at her, her scream was genuine and it was a one-take scene. Anyway, good job Kelly. Your turn. -Jon Jonathan Jones April 26th, 2008, 08:47 PM Fast forward to Van Helsing and Blade 3. Possibly the worst Draculas ever on screen. Indeed. Count Chocula from the cereal box was significantly more terrifying than either of those two clowns. IMHO. -Jon Kelly Goden April 26th, 2008, 09:29 PM I havent seen it since the 80s but certain things stick out. Frankenstein in the clubhouse, the Gillman, I forgot that Wolfman line. lol Its really hard to do those old Universal monsters without thinking of Lugosi Karloff, Cheney. BTW I have heard that Del Toro is thinking about doing a Hell Boy vs Universal Monsters movie-and he wants to use the original designs and possibly cg. Van Helsing's Dracula was bad bad bad--but for a few seconds at the start i could see that he was trying to do a Lugosi impression. But Blade 3. WOW. What were they thinking. And the scene where Dracula runs away from Blade like he was a street pimp. It may be Dracula's lowest moment. Anyway this may not be easy so I will throw in one hint--Charlton Heston is not in it. ;) "Eat recycled food. Recycled food is good for the environment and 'ok' for you." Kelly Goden April 27th, 2008, 01:42 PM Another quote from it: Two other convicts figured out that the city heating vent gushes solid flame every 30 seconds. They realized, if they timed it right, they could run down the pipeline to an opening inside the city. So, these two other guys, they made it, right? Actually, they were roasted. But the theory's a sound one. Jonathan Jones April 27th, 2008, 01:49 PM Ah! "Judge Dredd". What an embarrassing movie this was. I've watched it on weekend runs on networks like TNT or Spike when they run those also-ran marathons. When my system is bogged down by lengthy render sessions, I flip on the tube to see what type of brain-numbing programming passes the time. "Judge Dredd" made me think I would have been better off watching the render bar move across my screen. This movie felt like an indictment because I belong to a species for which this movie was designed as entertainment. Oh the humanity. -Jon Kelly Goden April 27th, 2008, 02:48 PM Ha "I knew you were going to say that." Take it away... Casey Krugman April 30th, 2008, 07:14 AM i got a quote on deck... so i hope you get this soon Josh Chesarek April 30th, 2008, 07:20 AM Its been a few days so unless he shows up in the next few hours would say pervious question asker or you could take it per the rules. Jonathan Jones April 30th, 2008, 09:40 AM Okay, sorry. Here it is. We're going back to the mid 80s for this one. Character 1: "Have you ever been Captain Nemo, trapped inside your submarine while the giant squid is attacking you? " Character 2: "Yes" C 1: "Weren't you afraid you couldn't escape? " C 2: "But it's only a story" C 1: "That's what I'm talking about. The ones YOU read are safe." C 2: "And that one isn't?" This one is probably pretty easy and will go quickly. (yes, it's also easily googlable ... if that is a word.) -Jon Jonathan Jones April 30th, 2008, 05:05 PM Alright.... here is another one from the same movie: "Because people who have no hopes are easy to control, and whoever has the control has the power!" -Jon Josh Chesarek April 30th, 2008, 08:33 PM I wanted a refund. That story most certainly ended.... (Granted I was just born when it came out so I didnt pay to see it...) Jonathan Jones April 30th, 2008, 08:49 PM That story most certainly ended.... Aye.... "The Neverending Story" it is. Your turn, good sir. -Jon Josh Chesarek May 1st, 2008, 08:56 PM Fairly easy I think : "Snack Pack! You're the coolest!" Alex Sprinkle May 4th, 2008, 03:12 PM Billy Madison? Josh Chesarek May 4th, 2008, 03:22 PM Billy Madison? Correct! Your turn! Alex Sprinkle May 6th, 2008, 10:03 AM "Where are you going? You do NOT walk out on The Duke!" Kelly Goden May 11th, 2008, 06:16 PM cue chirping crickets. Josh Chesarek May 11th, 2008, 06:24 PM I found it via google if that counts after so long? I think we need a new question.... Kelly Goden May 11th, 2008, 09:22 PM Yeah I found it by google too but i havent even seen the movie. I have an interesting one just waiting for the chance to use it. Josh Chesarek May 11th, 2008, 09:35 PM Well we can Alex till tomorrow and then we will have to post a new one, I don't mind if you go. Kelly Goden May 11th, 2008, 10:04 PM Yep ok. Thanks. Will wait to see what he says. Lorinda Norton May 12th, 2008, 09:01 PM From someone who checks in off and on to see if she actually knows one of these quotes (she never does, obviously) just let me say… …Post something! I think you’ve waited long enough. :) Josh Chesarek May 12th, 2008, 09:06 PM OK, an easy one. "Great. Just what we needed. A Drewish Princess." Lorinda Norton May 12th, 2008, 09:08 PM Yippee!!! Spaceballs! Lorinda Norton May 12th, 2008, 10:00 PM I’m so sure of myself (won’t I be embarrassed if I guessed wrong!) that I’m going to give a quote to keep things rolling. Comedies are my favorites to quote, but here’s one from a drama I love to watch for the scenery: “You believe a man can change his destiny?” “I think a man does what he can…until his destiny is revealed.” Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 04:51 AM That sounds really familiar but I cannot palce it. But for the record, you are correct with spaceballs ;) Kelly Goden May 13th, 2008, 06:36 AM For some reason I thought of Tom Cruise so my first guess is the Last Samurai (and if its not that then Minority Report because it could also work for that sort of :) Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 06:55 AM Crap. I think you are right on your first guess. Lorinda Norton May 13th, 2008, 07:31 AM Yep, it's from The Last Samurai! (Hey thanks, Josh, for tossing an easy one for me.) :) Kelly Goden May 13th, 2008, 10:45 AM This is an easy one. In fact its so easy that there are multiple right answers! The context is that someone makes a promise about whether or not to kill someone, and then goes back on the promise. And when confronted, the person says as a jokey punchline: "I lied." I know of three well know films that use this line, there may be others. I am curious which one springs to mind first, I have a pretty good idea which one will, but maybe someone will think of another one(the earliest movie I can think of to use it was in the 80s). I think the joke value of the line got old by the third time around. :) Kelly Goden May 13th, 2008, 02:30 PM No! Dont tell me this is a hard one! Someone must be able to name a movie with that one liner. It was used in 3 big name movies. 80s-90s. Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 04:14 PM Didnt Arnie say something along those lines in Commando? or at least in what order he was going to kill people in. which ended with "I lied" Does that count? Jonathan Jones May 13th, 2008, 04:27 PM Yeah, I'm sure there are at least a few other movies that use the same line and scenario, but "Commando" is the only one that comes to mind. In the scene, Arnie's character, John Matrix, is dangling Sully (the sleazeball) over the side of a cliff and reneges on his promise to kill Sully last, then drops him. -Jon Kelly Goden May 13th, 2008, 04:33 PM Congratulations! Yes that counts. In fact that was the one I expected to get named first! Arnie as Matrix: You're a funny guy Sully, that's why I am going to kill you last......Remember when I said I was going to kill you last?" Sully: That's right Matrix, you did!" Matrix: I lied! William Shatner actually used it a year earlier in a Star Trek movie, and in the Mask the villain used it too. But because Arnold was the only one to kill the character, I guess he owns it. Your turn! Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 04:50 PM As long as there is a steady pay check, Ill believeanything... Kent Frost May 13th, 2008, 04:55 PM That would be Winston from the first Ghostbusters! Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 05:09 PM Its yours! Kent Frost May 13th, 2008, 05:13 PM Here's a good one: "Bunny way? BuNNy WAY!" Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 05:21 PM Here's a good one: "Bunny way? BuNNy WAY!" Star Gate when jackson gives the guy a candy bar! Kent Frost May 13th, 2008, 05:24 PM haha you got it! Josh Chesarek May 13th, 2008, 05:28 PM "You must pay the rent!" "But I cant Pay the rent!" This one may need some tips. Dale Stoltzfus May 13th, 2008, 07:10 PM Westward the Women with Robert Taylor! Josh Chesarek May 14th, 2008, 04:36 AM Westward the Women with Robert Taylor! I don't know... I have never seen that. The movie I was thinking of has Bruce Willis in it. This particular character is acting like she is starting to loose it and actually says both lines. Dale Stoltzfus May 14th, 2008, 06:15 AM Haha - that's probably taken right from Westward the Women. Robert Taylor's character is sitting with his Korean buddy in his tent and they're both pretty stoned. The Korean guy folds up this piece of paper and uses it for a bow-tie (hero), hair-bow (girl), or mustache (villain) as he says their parts in different voices. I don't know the Bruce Willis movie, so I guess that doesn't count. ;) |
