I got a Marshall M-LCD-7 HDMI monitor for the VG10. BIG help in focusing! It's cheap priced and will greatly assist in critical focusing. All of the montior graphics appear, like f-stop, white balance, etc. so you can still manipulate the controls. Oddly, I used the monitor on my XF305 and none of the graphics info appears.
It'll do until the new Sony monitor with focus assist comes out.

Graphics on external monitors is a function of the camera not monitor. I recall the xl1s had a toggle for them.

Thanks, Les, I'll check the XF305 for that.

you can toggle them on the vg10 with the "disp" top middle button if memory serves.

Have one of the same monitors. Cheap and cheerful but like you say great for focussing and pretty indestructible. Fixed the battery onto the back with velcro stickers and it was good to go for 6-7 hours at a time. Only slight confusion is that the battery unit on my model has to be turned "on" to charge and looking back at my footage from the shoot I just used it on it does seem to crop the image slightly.

How do the Marshalls compare with Lilliput in terms of image, and price?

I picked up a illiput 7 " monitor ( model 669 internal battery) for a great price, and am quite happy with it thusfar.

Apologies, Wayne. I misread the OP's post. I'm also a lilliput owner (although I think it's the 668 rather than 669). Great bit of budget kit.
