I have a wedding I shot this past weekend and had to use an HVX200 at the last minute and now I wanted to know how to get those dang files into Vegas 9 Pro. Anyone have a workflow to offer?

Raylight by DVFilm (http://dvfilm.com/raylight/ultra/index.htm) ($200) is your only option with P2 cards.

There is not a way to convert them without without a $200 software purchase?

Unfortunately Sony and Panasonic don't play together nicely in the same sandbox :(
If you have a friend with FCP or Premiere, you can get them to read and convert the files for you.
Otherwise Raylight is your only option.

Hopefully someone else here will know if it'll work or not.

I know that Media Composer 5 can link to P2 files with AMA volume linking but, whatever workflow you develop will be extremely time consuming with multiple transcodes. Getting out of MC5 as Quicktime's will just cause problems in Vegas so, another round of transcoding will need to happen. Trust me, Raylight is pretty much the only option for a trouble free workflow with Vegas + P2 media.

Broke down and bought Raylight Ultra (for P2 footage) and Epic 1 (for Canon 60D footage). Guys at DVFilm were good enough to extend me a $75 coupon on the Raylight so the end result was $165 for 2 plug-ins. And they work like a charm. Epic re-encodes to MOV file so there is a little pause in the workflow for that but once that is done clips play back real time just fine. Love it!
