Hi all.
I've been trying to set my A1's display so that the Focus and the Zoom readings stay on in the display. However, no matter how I set the Custom display settings, (set to on or even always on) the focus and zoom readings always disappear after a few seconds. I've tried setting it in custom functions, and in custom display! What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.

Christopher,
On page 103 of the owners manual, it shows you how to set up a custom display with the items you wish to show.

Chris, p102 in the PAL manual.
One tip .. in the A1/s menus, the zoom reading has the option to display in numbers, Z0-99. This is handy beacuse it's tiny, doesn't clutter up the display and you can preset your framing by numbers. eg: I shoot aircraft of all different sizes.
I know that our HARS Super Constellation http://www.hars.org.au/2010/02/connie-takes-to-the-skies/ is zoom 39 to get her all in the frame as she passes on the runway on take off. So I zoom in to start and slowly out to Z39 as she gets closer .. she races past and I zoom in again as she climbs away.
39 on the Canon WD-H72 wide angle lens that is. HTH
Cheers.

Hi
It took me a while to understand the custom display settings. On page 27 in the PAL user manual it shows how the different display modes works. You toggle between four different display modes by using the Display (Disp.) button on the camcorder. The different modes are:
- Normal screen (shows everything)
- Custom display (shows your custom settings)
- Screen markers (and in some cases date/time)
- No display (that is no information)
I don't have my camcorder with me so I can't test, but I believe that in "Normal screen", some of the info, for example zoom, will show up when you change it but it will disappear after a couple of seconds.
By pressing the Display button once, you get into the Custom display mode. The display now show your own configured settings AND the zoom and focus settings are always dispalyed IF the custom settings are set to "02 - On (Always)".
What I'm trying to say is that the custom display settings only shows up in correct choise for the display.
