I have FCP and Handbrake which I guess is all I need - Handbrake to extract the data from the DVD and convert it into an Mpeg4 and then import that into FCP, or even iMovie HD and edit as required.
Never done it before, but am I going the right way about this or is there a better way?

I use MpegstreamClip which is free. I use it to rip dvds that I have produced not commercial ones. I export it as DV Quicktime inorder to edit it in FCP.

Hello,
you just open the folder on the disc go to the stream file and load it into your editor. No further compression by making mpeg to into mepeg 4, then working with it and rendering it again!!
I lost a big project but I often make discs of them along the way on read write discs, this paid off as I could load it back into my computer and use it.
