How come the pan shots from my D7000 look unnatural on the Tv screen?
Any suggestions

p.s: the pan are very slow and shot in A mode (aperture priority)

Can you elaborate or post a sample?

My first guess is that it's something to do with your shutter time, which is left up to the camera when you are in aperture priority mode. It's best to control that yourself (manual mode) to achieve your desired look.

For the traditional "film look" your shutter should be 1/50 second or thereabouts at 24 fps. This gives the amount of motion blur we are accustomed to seeing from a film or HD camera. Anything much faster will start to look choppier, strobier.

Set your shutter to 1/50 (or whatever you want) in manual mode and then adjust exposure using ISO and f/stop.

Sup Eric,
Thx for your help! So you suggest to use the M mode for video shooting?
Thank you mate

Yes, it's one way to have control over the shutter speed with the D7000.

Dear Eric,
i'm keeping testing the d7k videos.....
THe shutter is @1/50 th, the pans and tilts are very slow and i'm shooting in M Mode.
I tryed to use the shutter at 1/100th but i still fell unnutural move on the screen even when the slow cars pass by on the frame, Maybe i'm doing something wrong?

have a great w-e

Post an example online of what you are seeing if possible. It will be easier to help you figure it out if you can post an example.

Are you shooting in 25p?

I'll try tomorrow!
By the way i'm in Pal land and i'm shooting 24p (the only option to have max 1920x1080 full resolution).
Do you thin a new firmware could give us other options about frame rate etc?

I am seeing problems that come from the rolling shutter on the tilts and pans.

What I have done personally to minimize those effects is to do those kind of moves on the end of a jib. The pans especially are MUCH cleaner.

For the tilts you will have to experiment with different speeds and find one that doesn't cause the motion artifacts you are using. You can try a different frame rate and see how that affects what you are seeing.

Marcus,

There is some sort of frame blending happening on your footage. It's unlikely the camera and more likely something you are doing after copying it from the camera. Here's a still that shows the ghost blended image, especially visible on the white car and the headlight of the blue car.

I see this artifacting over all of your footage.

Can you open the camera original file in QuickTime and step through it to that frame and see if you see that ghosting in the camera file? I bet you won't. Then it's a matter of seeing where this artifact is being introduced.
