I got a strange problem. I am using vegas pro 9 to capture hdv 720p from a JVC HD100. I am unchecking the "enable scene detection" in the capture window but still I am ending up with a .m2t file for every cut I make while filming!! Any idea on how to eliminate this problem? Thanks for any help

Try HDVSplit (http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm) (it's free) and see if it works any better.

I tried it and exactly same thing happened!! Also in HDVSplit the preview window remains black. Could it be something from the camera?

If you're using windows 7, try movie maker for capturing, it doens't do scene detection for HD, I don't believe, even if you want it to.

George,
Sony HDV capture has always split video when one stops recording. This has nothing to do with scene detection. Don't know about HDVSplit since I don't use it. I have the same camera and have the same results when capturing HD.

Jerry

Jerry, maybe George realises this? In theory by turning off Scene detect should ignore these Starts and Stops and that that is what George is having an issue with? But I could be wrong.

Generally speaking, simply stopping and restarting the camera should NOT cause the capture program to start a new file with scene detection turned off. However, if there's a gap in the timecode there, it WILL create a new file. The fact that HDVSplit is also doing it leads me to believe there's either a gap in the timecode OR maybe some glitches in the tape?

...and if there is a gap in the time code, you generally do want it split especially if you need to sync to other audio or video.
