With about eight years experience with the HVX-200 and HPX-170, P2 and Edius, as a hobbiest I am still a novice by any standard. Question for the big players - when recording 1080p30 in AVC-Intra to P2, say with the new 3100 camcorder, what might be the work-flow to a final DVD or Blu-ray project ? I can see still editing the AVC-Intra in the newer versions of Edius. I assume that you would then convert your footage to MPEG-2 for DVD or to h.264 for Blu-ray, but I understand that the conversion of HD to good quality SD is not an easy task. Would one be better off shooting SD in DVCPRO 50 to begin with for DVD projects ? Are there other NLEs that will edit AVC-Intra ?

I use AVC Intra 100 on my HPX301 cameras and record at 1920x1080i 25np.

It all goes into final cut pro as native ingest giving me a pro res HQ set of files, I then edit and export a master in the same format, 1920x1080 25np pro res HQ. FCP can edit AVC Intra re-wrapped this way.

I then burn DVD's or make blu ray files from that master and it all works very well, I also make my files for you tube etc from that master and they are 1280x720p at 5mbs.

Hope this helps.
