Hi Guys
I did a Realty shoot yesterday which involved the interior of a new apartment block and decided to try the 80 in low light. Well, I started in the parking garage two levels below the roadway and it was pretty dim in there!! The image in the EVF seemed like it had a mesh over the screen and my heart sank..but I filmed anyway!! In the apartment itself, they had opted for energy efficient lighting which meant the bedrooms had a glass fitting with a tiny 8w CFL lamp inside...it sorta glows rather than lights the room!!!
The EVF also had the fuzzy look so I certainly wasn't expecting great footage (in the same dismal conditions I would have got a far brighter image on the EVF than I was getting with my older HMC70!!!)
After dropping the clips into Sony Vegas ..I was quite shocked...nice sharp footage and certainly nothing like the EVF was telling me I was filming at all!!!! Most of the time the lens data showed the iris as "OPEN" so it must have been into gain mode. The footage even in this poor light was pretty good I must admit. So far I now know that "what you see" isn't "what you get" The EVF obviously doesn't display low light images as well as the camera "sees" them.... Haven't checked yet but maybe the EVF needs a bit of tweaking??? It's currently on default settings....
Don't take the footage for granted if it looks poor in the EVF/LCD ..it's a lot sharper!!!
Anyone out there with an HMC40 that has the same issues?????
Chris
