During installation you are asked for your name/e-mail address. When you progress to the next screen, it contacts the NewBlue servers and sends you an e-mail. Then you enter that serial number on the next screen of the install process. Note that the serial number will only work on THAT computer. If you're installing on another computer, you must go through the same process on that computer too.
