How can I take advantage of this with HDV, Does it allow me to lighten up footage that is too dark, in other words, is there more information available to me when shot in HDV?

Super whites are for the opposite senario where the image "appears" to have been clipped to white. Using Video System RGB mode, reducing the bright and contrast and brings more details out of the clipped regions. Camera uses a Luma range of 0-255, yet standard RGB only ever uses the source luma range of 16-235; this mean the standard Premiere clips off values between 0 and 15 and between 236 and 255. By using Aspect HD you can get at these values for improve image quality.

This mode does also help for dark images, as brightening the image can extract additional information previously lost in super-black.

Might I add that those extra 35 shades of grey are quite noticable when you start to work with it. Hooray! Everyone's happy with a little more dynamic range for tweaking in post.
