I was curious, is there a preferred connection type, between editing computer and monitor (is one better then the other)? I'll be getting a couple new monitors, that have multiple connection types, and my Mac can use either HDMI, or DVI, or I'm sure there are other types of mini display port to whatever, type connectors. I'm wondering with would be preferred, or if it even makes a difference?

Thanks,
Jeff

SDI is best. It's 10 bits and can carry audio, timecode & other metadata.

I guess I can understand that. But I'm thinking I would need a card like a Kona or something of the like for that. I was just simply wondering about the best way to connect my Apple ATI 5870 to a Dell 24inch Ultra Sharp monitor? A KONA 3G HD/SD SDI 3D Card is on my shopping/wish list for the time being, but until that happens, I have what I have.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Jeff,

DVI=Video only
HDMI=Video&audio

Both will offer same picture quality.

To go from your graphics card to a computer monitor, use DVI or DisplayPort.

If you had a 10bit LCD, some ATI models with Displayport can output 10bit on the Mac which would come in handy with Photoshop.

Aside from that, DVI has screws so its a secure connection.
