View Full Version : Compatibility with Canon XF300/305?, Richard Blau January 5th, 2011, 02:06 PM Is the Nanoflash compatible with the xf300/305; and if there is any way to know, with the upcomint 100/105 or the newer canon announced at BH today? Andy Mangrum January 5th, 2011, 04:30 PM Hello Richard, The nanoFlash works very well with the Canon XF305, via SDI or HDMI, It is very versatile camera Offering 720p which we do not typically see on Canon's XHL1 or XHG1 Series. As well as it supports Compact Flash Media, and the nanoFlash supports Playback of Canon XF300 / 305 Files. As for the New unveiled camera's from Canon, the XF100 should work via HDMI and the XF105 Via SDI, and the Canon XA10 should work via HDMI As well as Panasonic's new AF-100 is another good companion to the nanoFlash Best Regards Rob Katz January 6th, 2011, 05:39 PM andy- thank you for the quick response. as for the newer canon offerings, the xf100, xf105, xa10- -is there any difference in the quality of the data if it ports thru hdmi (xf100 & xa10) or sdi (xf105)? -will the nanoflash support playback of canon xf100/105 or xa10 files? thanks in advance for any insights you can provide. be well rob Dan Keaton January 6th, 2011, 06:11 PM Dear Rob, HD-SDI and HDMI are the same quality. The nanoFlash supports playback of files from the XF100 and XF105. These cameras use CompactFlash cards and our 1.6.245 was designed to work with Canon's files. The Canon XA 10 camera uses SD cards, and the nanoFlash does not. Rob Katz January 6th, 2011, 07:56 PM dan- thanks for the quick reply. i knew the nanoflash wrote to compact flash media but i did not realize that the camera's actual use of compact flash media was determinative for using the nanoflash. i always thought it was the access pipeline-sdi or hdmi- which determined whether a nanoflash could be used. thanks again. be well rob Dan Keaton January 6th, 2011, 08:26 PM Dear Rob, Your original question was if the nanoFlash could playback files from the XA 10. If the files are transferred from the SD card to a CompactFlash card, then we should be able to play the files. But, the nanoFlash can not read SD cards. The nanoFlash, of course, can record the HDMI output of the XA 10 and then play that back without a problem, but I did not think that was your question. Andy Mangrum January 7th, 2011, 11:33 AM Hello Rob, If I could just add to what Dan had mentioned, There is no Quality Difference between the two connection's, But depending on your application, You should consider the following SDI Is a Locking Connection and HDMI Is not, So if you may be shooting in a high Vibration or a on the Move environment then SDI would probably be the better choice, As for the camera's, They all use the same size sensor so the image quality should be rather similar, Things to consider would be size, accessories, and workflow for your given application.
