View Full Version : picture problems on dvd
Johan Samuelsson August 7th, 2005, 02:31 AM hello everbody, this is my first postand i'm going to start whith some problems :P. I've edited a dv movie in adobe premiere and on the computer i looks interlaced... as I suppose it should do. when i look at the movie from the video out on my tv i looks just fine no problems there. But when i export it whith adobes mpeg encoder and burn it on a dvd whith Sonics "dvdit" i doesn't look good on my tv it looks like interlaced on computer screen...
ps. i'm using adobe premier 6.5, my dvd player is a sony rdr hx 910 (I've tried other to, i've tried dvd discs of many brands.
Dan Euritt August 7th, 2005, 01:07 PM perhaps the settings on the adobe mpeg encoder are not correct?
Devin Eskew August 7th, 2005, 08:32 PM I've seen some not very flattering footage from DVDIT, any idea if its re-encoding the premier encode?
Johan Samuelsson August 8th, 2005, 02:23 AM i've tried a lot of settings in premiers encoder, like upper field first, down field first, low bitrate etc... perhaps the probklem is in dvdit as DEvin said... but does anybody have any solution for this? it's really driving me mad... want to show my movie for poeple soon :P
Devin Eskew August 8th, 2005, 08:56 AM How long is your movie? Try to keep the bit rate 5,000 and up if possible, however try not to go over 8,500. As for DVDIT, is it re-encoding i.e. when making the DVD is it just "preparing and then "burning"? Or do you at any time see a "rendering" message? Also have you tried progressive scan? I'll do a little more DVDIT checking and get back to you. As long as in Premier you encode NTSC MPEG-2 you should be fine, how is the audio? I think Premier renders 32k audio which will need to be changed, however I've never had an issue like this rendering out of Premier using the basic template. You may have better luck rendering AVI out of Premier and then let DVDIT do the MPEG-2 encode.
Johan Samuelsson August 8th, 2005, 12:42 PM the movie is about 20 minutes long, no i can't see any rendering message at any time it says in the info of teh program it just creates shortcuts to the original files, my bitrate is 6000. i'm using PAL cause i'm living in europe, sweden. I'm going to try what you said about Avi... thansk so long :)
Devin Eskew August 8th, 2005, 01:10 PM Which version of DVDIT are you using?
DVDit Pro v6 looks to be the most current.
I was wrong about your encode, being that you are in Europe, use the PAL options. Let me know how your AVI test went?
Dan Euritt August 8th, 2005, 01:52 PM >>> i doesn't look good on my tv it looks like interlaced on computer screen<<<
that sounds like the fields are mis-matched... if your pal dv footage was shot upper field first, then you need to make sure that the mpeg2 file you encode for the dvd is also upper field first... always match it, and don't re-encode, as devin mentioned.
you might also try using another dv authoring app, in order to eliminate dvdit as the source of your problems.
Johan Samuelsson August 9th, 2005, 05:34 AM okey mu version of dvd it is 2,5 LE, i'm only using it cause i got it whith premiere, as i said i tried all kinds of fields first. morte exactly: upper, lower and none. The avi test did'nt work at all, dvd iut don't take any other format then mpeg 2.
Dan eruitt do you mean another dvd author app? it says Dv author?
i really apreciate your help guys
Devin Eskew August 9th, 2005, 08:36 AM Yes I think he may mean using Encore, DVD A-3 or somthing like that. I'll check out DVDIT 2.5 and get back to you, however I suspect it may just be a lower-end app type of thing.
Johan Samuelsson August 9th, 2005, 09:18 AM okeey pjiuuw thought he ment another editing software.. cause i spent a lot of time editing my project :S
Dan Euritt August 9th, 2005, 11:59 AM yes, dvd authoring software, not video editing software, sorry about leaving that extra "d" off of there!
i was thinking perhaps try downloading the demo version of: http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/
matching the fields should not be trial and error... you need to know what you are shooting, and then match it... see if this helps:
http://www.creativecow.net/articles/onneweer_barend/deinterlacing/
http://www.greatdv.com/video/fields.htm
did you somehow reverse the field dominance when rendering, within your video editing application, before it got exported to mpeg? take a look at the render settings.
Johan Samuelsson August 11th, 2005, 09:31 AM okey... :P the fields are matched all the way... through premiere... i'mgoing to try the other program you mentioned, i checked the rendering options and it's on lower fiel first as all other settings :(
