View Full Version : Encoded interlaced video?
Micky Hulse December 10th, 2010, 05:26 PM Hi,
See attached.
In QTPro, I typically turn on "High Quality" and "Deinterlace" under the video options (command-J).
In this case, the client is looking for the best quality web video possible... No problem I say....
But, here is the problem... Looking at the attached screen shot... How can I fix that?
I have "Deinterlace" checked, but nothing is happening.
I am guessing that I need to get my hands on the original video file so I can de-interlace on my end and go straight to the web "quality" video.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Micky
Andrew Smith December 13th, 2010, 06:13 AM Have they supplied the video to you in its native full resolution? I'm wondering if they have been nice and "helpful" in resizing it for you prior to your receiving it.

Micky Hulse December 13th, 2010, 12:13 PM Hi Andrew! Many thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the help! :)
Have they supplied the video to you in its native full resolution?
Hehe, good question. I asked for the "highest resolution possible". They ended up giving me a 640x480 resolution video.
That is actually a good tip! I was not sure how to word that... I will be sure to ask for "native full resolution" vs. "highest resolution possible".
I'm wondering if they have been nice and "helpful" in resizing it for you prior to your receiving it.
Hehe, I am kinda thinking this might be the case. :)
So, just out of curiosity, how does the interlacing get "burned" into the footage like that? Is it because they rendered out as a QT mov without de-interlacing, and now it is impossible to remove?
Thanks so much!!!
Cheers,
Micky
Micky Hulse December 13th, 2010, 12:17 PM Hrmm, you know what is interesting, only the helmets are funky... Shouldn't the background show some signs of interlacing? Now I am wondering if maybe the helmets were problematic before they comped things out in After Effects? In other words, the helmets had issues even before they rendered out the main commercial?
Andrew Smith December 13th, 2010, 07:24 PM The helmets would be more obvious when it comes to the interlacing issue as (I presume) there is more movement in those foreground objects than there is in the background. Also, the background is out of focus and you need contrasting edges to notice the interlacing movement.
Definitely ask for the native/original resolution version of the video. If it is standard definition, it should be something like 720x480 (DV-NTSC).
I'll save the explanation of how it gets 'burned' in. Just to say that the interlacing needs to be removed before resizing.
