Andris Krastins January 8th, 2011, 10:09 AM I started editing a few hours ago. I think I'll finish in time. Lorinda Norton January 8th, 2011, 10:14 AM I figured you must be pretty confident when you finally signed up, Andris. :) Way to go! Hope all goes well through the finish line. Henry Williams January 8th, 2011, 11:11 AM Yep. All on course here. Just edited the first half together. Hopefully have a rough edit finished for the composer by end of play today then tomorrow I'll do the grade and pay the price for not using a clapper when I try and replace the in camera audio with the boom audio. Noooo! Good luck everyone! Can't wait to see the finished films :) Andris Krastins January 8th, 2011, 12:08 PM ...... just, during editing, discovered that I have to rewrite some of the script . fun.. Marc Burleigh January 8th, 2011, 01:11 PM Script rewrite on the fly... I can sympathise with that. I had an edit that was pretty much wrapped up but I wasn't happy with it, so took the thing apart again and tried to reconfigure. Which required another shoot today for another element. I think it'll work though, just had to find a way to push the narrative forward without having the actors on hand.... I reckon it hits the theme, though, so all good. We'll see what happens.... Good luck to all. I certainly learned a few things on the way.... Dale Guthormsen January 8th, 2011, 01:36 PM Good afternoon, Blowing snow, I am setting at the airport for at least a couple more hours if the darn plane will land at all!!! Reading the posts I hope there are some out there keeping silent but finishing up their films!!!! If I had to get everthing together as well as all of you I would never finish, am sure. Andrea, I really hope you finish yours as the last one I watched I thought was pretty creative!!! I worked on doing a few new things in this video, things I would never do for my usual filming that I do. It was truly fun but time consuming to be sure. I will check back when I get to Denver as I have a couple hour lay over there!!! have fun finishing up!!!!! Henry Williams January 8th, 2011, 03:01 PM Marc, if Catnip was anything to go by I'm sure the film will turn out great! Thankfully I haven't had to do any rewrites with this one although some of the edit was a bit of a slog. Trond, I can empathise with the camera woes. Had similar problems with my XH-A1 last year. If it hadn't been for the b camera running sound I'd have been completely stuffed. It ended up being down to a bad batch of tapes rather than the camera - so if you're getting errors this regularly its worth checking out. I know there was a bad batch of sony DV tapes recently on the market that caused a lot of people problems... Beer O clock now, but back into it tmrw am. Trond Saetre January 8th, 2011, 03:19 PM Henry, this is the first time I got any problems with the camera since I bought it in 2003. (well, I had the famous tape transport problem so many people had, but got it fixed under the warranty back in 2004.) Would be great if it is only this single tape causing trouble. Crossing my fingers I have it solved by tomorrow. The Canon XF300 is on my wish/dream list, but the price tag of about $12.500 is too high at the moment. Yep, it is expencive here in Norway. Cole Seidl January 8th, 2011, 06:37 PM HA! Production is completely done. It was hellacious, and fun. Editing now. Will have it completed without a doubt. Dale Guthormsen January 8th, 2011, 06:48 PM Good evening, Well, I am quite a few hundred miles south in Denver airport waiting on the last leg!!! Tronde, I hope your trusty gl2 will get the job done for you!!! they are one of the great SD cameras!! Cole, congrats on the finish, look forward to seeing your production. Good luck until tomarrow midnight!!!!! ;best is yet to come!!! Dale Henry Williams January 8th, 2011, 07:46 PM Well done Cole! Trond, it might be worth considering a hybrid/DSLR like the GH2 or VG10. I didn't have the cash to replace my XH-A1 with the new Canon and so was in the same boat as you, but buying a VG10 allowed me to get great image quality at a lower price level and I know I've still got the XH-A1 for when I do jobs that require more pro features. Plus it means I'm amassing DSLR lenses that won't become obsolete and can be used with the AF100 or whatever the equivalent is when I can afford to upgrade my main cam. It beats starting from scratch every few years... Chris Barcellos January 9th, 2011, 12:04 AM With building out a studio cyclorama, a new office, and a crash last night of my computer system that has taken most of they day to clean up, I am beyond the point of being able to get something done for this challenge.... I've always particularly looked forward to this challenge, especially when it joined up with UWOL. Even yesterday, I had hoped to cobble something together, but it just wasn't in the cards this time around. Catch you all on the next go around.. Cole Seidl January 9th, 2011, 12:54 AM Sorry to hear that Chris. I always enjoy your entries. I'm certain you'll have better luck the next challenge that comes around. Lorinda Norton January 9th, 2011, 12:58 AM HA! Production is completely done. It was hellacious, and fun. Editing now. Will have it completed without a doubt. Cracked me up, Cole! Done while in France, no less! You just made my night. :) Andris Krastins January 9th, 2011, 05:37 AM I'm not sure if I should submit mine, it's not... that good. Ah, for the hell of it I probably will. Trond Saetre January 9th, 2011, 05:48 AM Trond, it might be worth considering a hybrid/DSLR like the GH2 or VG10. Thank you for the tips, Henry! I appreciate. Anyway, I finally got my (trusted) XM2 up and running again today. Several new rounds of using cleaning tape seems to have solved the problem with the dirty heads. (Notice to self: Remember to use the cleaning tape in "record mode" also, and not only "play mode".) Unfortunately today's weather (storm and rain coming horizontally) and (lack of) time have sent me to the wall of sharks. I'm out of this challenge, but will be back next round! Good luck everyone! I look forward to see all the finished films. Finn-Erik Faale January 9th, 2011, 06:52 AM I wonder about the UWOL version of the the film. I have not got any uploading instructions. The Vimeo link is mailed to thedvchallenge@gmail.com. Maybe that will do? Trond, I am sorry to hear about your problems. The next UWOL challenge is not far away. Trond Saetre January 9th, 2011, 06:55 AM Finn-Erik No upload instructions for the DVC or DVC/UWOL challenges. Upload to youtube and/or vimeo, and send the link via email as you already have done. It's only for UWOL we upload to the uwol website. And yes, I'm looking forward to February and the next UWOL challenge :) Finally the camera is cooperating again. Lorinda Norton January 9th, 2011, 10:16 AM Trond is correct, Finn-Erik. I haven't looked to see if prior UWOL entries submitted for the charity challenge have been posted on the UWOL Web site or not, but for this challenge the YouTube or Vimeo link sent to thedvchallenge@gmail.com is all you need. Andris, I have thought that very thing about the majority of my entries--that they weren't worth submitting. But, like you, I decided that after all the work we put into them we might as well! I just watched a behind-the-scenes clip with Joel and Ethan Coen regarding their film Intolerable Cruelty. One of them had a look of regret and almost embarrassment about the film because it was more commercial than what they usually do. Funny, I liked that one better than some of their others. So there you go--you never know what is going to be a hit with some people. :) Cole Seidl January 9th, 2011, 10:42 AM Cracked me up, Cole! Done while in France, no less! You just made my night. :) Glad to hear it. Although, I came back to the states a week ago, with just enough time to crank this out. Just forgot to change location on here. Andris Krastins January 9th, 2011, 11:54 AM Just great... now that I've finished my editing, I discover that the internet speed has gone with the weather... state of emergency was declared a few days ago. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1104103492.png (http://www.speedtest.net) It may take me up to 23 hours to upload a 100mb file!!! I may be a little late if the electricity doesn't go out. Lorinda Norton January 9th, 2011, 12:24 PM No worries from this end, Andris. Hoping the upload doesn't get interrupted! Henry Williams January 9th, 2011, 01:32 PM exporting now so fingers crossed. Afraid I havent had time to do a version for dark monitors so some of you may have to adjust your sets :( Sorry! Other than that pretty pleased. Just hope nothing goes wrong with compressor... Marc Burleigh January 9th, 2011, 03:11 PM Well, it's as ready as I can make it before deadline. Done and loaded up to Vimeo.... Looking forward to seeing everybody's gems. Henry Williams January 9th, 2011, 05:26 PM Well done Marc! Same here. All done and dusted. Marc Burleigh January 9th, 2011, 05:42 PM Excellent Henry. Your penchant for twisted stories should paint something special for us. So what do we do now? Apart from chugging back a scotch and waiting for the deadline, that is. With only a couple of completed videos to look at, I guess there's no staggered "release"... They'll all be up tomorrow, Lorinda? Henry Williams January 9th, 2011, 06:27 PM yeah, sorry Marc. Even by my standards this one's twisted ;) I've had a couple of light ales and am spending tomorrow doing my tax returns and trying to work out how I can afford a couple of softboxes, a shockmount, lavalier mic, field monitor, a 35mm 1.8 and a tascam dr100. Fun times! Henry Williams January 9th, 2011, 06:28 PM On a side note, can't wait for the feedback threads. I learned an absolute ton from them last time. Lorinda Norton January 9th, 2011, 07:11 PM Well done, guys! Our normal MO is to give one day to make sure we got everyone's videos. Don't know yet if we will release them all at once on Tuesday or spread them over a couple of days--depends on how many we get! Besides, I just got back from shooting so will be editing like mad all night, plus I have an event in town at 0830 tomorrow, which means a nap later on and...you get the idea. :) Henry Williams January 9th, 2011, 07:13 PM Well done, Lorinda! Can't wait to see what you come up with :) Cole Seidl January 10th, 2011, 01:57 AM AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Trying to upload, but it is taking for ever, that's what I get for moving out to the stix where we can't get real internet. If we could be pardoned for some extra minutes, we'll have it up tonight. Pete Bauer January 10th, 2011, 01:59 AM Ok, it may be a last minute pile o' crap but my entry is in. First time that I've used Vimeo and the audio came out much lower on the Vimeo version than at home; might have been a 5.1 to stereo conversion issue or something. If it's ok, I may try to render a stereo version to upload and see if that fixes it. Andris Krastins January 10th, 2011, 02:19 AM Ok, it may be a last minute pile o' crap but my entry is in. I second that in relation to my own entry. :) Lorinda Norton January 10th, 2011, 02:24 AM Not to worry, Cole. We always leave room for technical problems. :) Way to go, Pete!!! It's been awhile but, by golly, you did it. And in style, too! Go right ahead with the audio fix--as I told Cole... Bill Thesken January 10th, 2011, 05:14 PM Dang it, I couldn't finish in time, started too late. Got some great exterior shots, built a set indoors with a green screen background, couldn't get an actor so did the shots myself, then my computer got hacked and I've spent the past few days trying to straighten it out. Probably for the best since I'm a terrible actor. Looking forward to seeing the films ! |
