I have a 6-hour continuous shoot coming up in a few weeks for a PBS production in a school. Won't be much space for a tripod. Will this sucker do the job for me?

yes.. they work wonders.. but be aware that your breathing will create an up down motion which is visible in the shot.. ..

You get the same up and down effect with the XL2 though... right?

yeah, but the XL2 has a kick ass OIS.. much MUCH better than the DVX could ever be.. even at full zoom the stabiliser is so solid and smooth that ive doen some shots where im powerwalking to keep up and it looks like im using a glidecam.. its that good.. put on a .5 wide lense to the already kick ass 20x and youll need to change your undies.. ;)

I love my DVX babies.. and they give me far more control on the fly than the XL2 can (ie blind navigation of controls) but the XL2 is a great unit.. despite its horrid form factor..
