View Full Version : Multi-resolution problems with FCP - but not premiere?

Just curious if this could be explained:

1. Why can PPro handle *muti-resolutions?
2. Why can't FCP handle multi-resolutions without stuttering?
3. Is there a possible fix for FCP or workaround to allow multiresolution editing, without stuttering, even in some kind of lower res mode? currently I am using the RT playback function which gives yellow bars, but stutters.

*Multi-resolutions (eg. mixing 2048x1152 with 1920x1080 on the same timeline).

Thanks!

1) Because it is a modern NLE.
2) Because it is not.
3) FCP only works in RT at 1920x1080, anything else is a problem.

strange that FCP is more of an industry standard as opposed to PPRO at this point.

90% of my clients are working in FCP, if not higher end software. PPRO users are gaining, as the software has been improving, but I just don't see it with most of the clients here in Toronto.

Stick with 1080p then.

That's like buying a porsche knowing that you'll only drive it 100km/h.
heh..

We're shooting 2k, 'cause we're after the highest quality source material we can get with the si2k.

Our DP wants the highest quality source footage, so si2k.... 2k it is.
Our post production house editing in FCP, can't handle the mixed resolutions of (backup camera) 5D and 35mm film transfer at 1920. So they are downresing all the 2k footage to 1920, but in doing so they lose the debayering of the si2k - unless that gets baked in during the down res.

Well one might be modern and one dated, yet PP is missing quite a bit of features that are there for Avid and FCP.
Try to work with any sort of subtitles in PP.
Not to mention the all feature lacking EDL.

This is not to say that Apple should not get off their a** start doing something about the playback engine - but there is much more to it than just that. I also am in a pinch for 2K playback. So I have resulted editing in PP and once finished, I get into FCP for export. As no export for PP on OSX for Cineform work. Support suggested to wait for another build - 3 weeks ago!

Under OSX the first-light crashes alot, and there are no keyframe controlls on wave.... So how would one use these things in editing session? I think I need a tutorial how to use these tools in OSX - would that be possible. Something like real life short film editing?

With Making DVD's Archive MOV and DPX seequence for final master.

Thank You
