Does anyone know if you can do a live capture of an event to a laptop using Sony Vegas? (I know Adobe Premiere Elements can...) I'm going from Sony VX2100 via firewire on a laptop.
What are your experiences (if this is doable)?
Thanks for your help.

Yes you can. Just be sure you turn off "Device Control" or it will try to capture from a tape.

Edward is right.
I've done 3 hr. captures to an external USB drive with no issues whatsoever.

What minimum notebook requirements were you using?

It's of course obvious to say this, but since FireWire connectors are on the decline with new laptops, make sure your chosen laptop does actually have one (or that you have an SC or PCMCIA adapter card that has one).

Jaime, this was with an older desktop (P4, 3.4 GHz) but DV capture puts very little strain on a system so this shouldn't be a problem.
