Hello,

I have a problem when I transcode AVCHD files from a Canon HFS 100 ( AVI for PC) :
I notice an increase in contrasts, and therefore a loss of detail in lighter shades and darker.

I tried it on multiple PCs, and using Neoscene and Neo HD: Result is the same.
I compared the files in Vegas and MC5: same problem ...

jpg : - left: AVCHD, - right: Cineform

any idea ?

Additional Information:

I'm on 5.2.0

HDV footage: same problem
MP4 from EX3: same problem

MOV from Canon5D: OK

I've noticed a similar difference, but think of it differently.
To me, my AVCHD previews tend to look a little "flat" and the CF previews I think of as a "richer" looking image.
I don't really know what that is all about- if it is more apparent than real- if it is an important consideration, or not.
Maybe we'll get some input from the smart guys :)

All formats are converted in the YUV domain where nothing is lost, yet you are viewing in an NLE which display in the RGB domain which can change things depending on what you do. Most of the time Vegas uses complain of the opposite, that CineForm has lower constrast -- every time this end up being the user not understanding studio RGB. If you use NeoHD with FirstLight you can control the way the image is developed.

which version of Vegas?

OK David, I got trapped by Vegas 10...(What a pity the picture is much more fluid)

Don't have that problem on V9 (with the same display setting) ... V10 seems to really need updates ... quickly ... ( I hate V9 ! )
