what is it?
Craig Longman October 14th, 2010, 12:03 PM 0xc0000005 is the most basic of exceptions, a generic access violation. The app tried to read from or write to memory it didn't own.
Suggest you submit a bug report to Sony, and perhaps hang on to a copy of those log files referenced, in case they want to see them.
There are a few suggestions for v10 users sprinkled around in the recent messages, perhaps take a peek and see if any apply. Not knowing what you were doing or when the error occurred makes suggesting anything more impossible.
Marius Boruch October 14th, 2010, 12:06 PM I was working with regular HD mxf files from EX1 and Canon 5D; just regular editing - nothing extraordinary
Craig Longman October 14th, 2010, 12:27 PM Then all I can suggest is provide the trace info and description of what you were doing to Sony. Try and save those logs referenced, I presume they refer to actual files on your hard drive. They might be of some use to Sony also.
Marius Boruch October 14th, 2010, 12:31 PM I did sent it to Sony this time and many times in the past...as you can expect NO response at all...they are "to big to..." care
Prech Marton October 14th, 2010, 12:45 PM Hi
I have a HDV file, rendered with Procoder 2.0 to mpeg2 transport stream format.
I have no problem importing and playing back this with Vegas 8.0e, but with Vegas 10 Trial,
i cannot get picture, only hear the audio. The monitor is black.
Other format works.
Some bug?
Marius Boruch October 14th, 2010, 06:25 PM OK, there is something very wrong going on here with Vegas 10. I REINSTALLED WIN7 / formated drive C:/
everything from scratch...installed fresh vegas 10 etc. started editing HD project using Sony EX1 mxf's and after 15 minutes there is an ERROR;
Win7 was updated, RAM in Vegas was set to 2GB, all new drivers etc.
This is powerful i7 CPU running at 3.5MHZ with 12GB RAM

what is it???? anybody?
Craig Longman October 14th, 2010, 06:31 PM RAM in Vegas was set to 2GB
Not that this really should be an issue on 64bit windows and 64bit Vegas, but I'm guessing this 2GB is your dynamic preview RAM, which has nothing to do with rendering. It is just the 'cache' that vegas uses to not have to re-execute each plugin while you're previewing.
Perhaps try lowering that anyway and see if it helps? Like 350MB or less. As I said, it shouldn't make a difference, but it's the only thing that stands out to me.
Marius Boruch October 14th, 2010, 06:33 PM Craig,
I am not rendering but simply editing. I will change it back to 350MB and see what happens.
Marius Boruch October 14th, 2010, 08:15 PM Nope...
I changed it to 350MB it lasted for almost an hour and crashed again....same error.
hm....It wasn't happening this morning when I was working for the last time on Vegas 9 - it is so annoying that
I can't go back to Vegas 9 with projects created on V10.
Craig Longman October 14th, 2010, 11:12 PM I am not rendering but simply editing. I will change it back to 350MB and see what happens.
Ah yes, sorry. I forgot you said that.
Well, in a program like Vegas, given all that's changed, it's near impossible to not have some issues at first. Especially given the broad range of media it has to deal with (as in sources as well as types).
Your log trace seems to indicate you've included the 3D adjust filter in your work? That filter, as well as the whole OFX thing is brand new, as I'm sure you're aware. If it is, in fact, on, perhaps try to remove it and see if you can work longer. Perhaps only applying it at the very end. Not sure, as you indicate going back to v9, where that filter doesn't exist I suspect. Just a thought anyway.
Edward Troxel October 15th, 2010, 06:25 AM Marius, you honestly need to contact Sony and give them full details on the project, your system, and anything else they may ask for.
Marius Boruch October 15th, 2010, 09:17 AM Craig,
How to eliminate that 3D filter; I am not using 3D at all. In my Project Properties, video tab stereo 3D is OFF; is this what you are referring to?
Gene Gajewski October 15th, 2010, 05:15 PM Flaky memory and/or drivers can cause access violations too. Interesting that decreasing the preview memory somehow helped. I wonder if testing the ram is in order.
Marius Boruch October 15th, 2010, 05:33 PM Nothing actually helped!!!
I switched back to Vegas 90e and IT WORKS GREAT!! with exactly same Win7 configuration.
Vegas 10 is screwed up big time;
I even removed those new 3D plugins - nothing help.
Here is what bothers me:
Plain and simple:
- fresh win7
- Sony EX1 files
- rock solid Asus P6X58D motherboard
what simpler configuration could be used for testing for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am working only with Sony files from Sony EX1 camcorder and it can't work together...with brand new installed win7 with newest drivers (yes, I checked it with previous versions of drivers too) - did Sony people tested this software before releasing it to the public??? if yes I am wondering how...
will they refund my money???

Edward Troxel October 16th, 2010, 07:53 AM Marius, fact is that it's running fine on hundreds of other machines. Your machine definitely has a conflict of some kind. I don't know what it is and, I'm guess no one else on this forum will be able to diagnose what is conflicting. The people that could really help you is Sony Technical Support. Have you tried contacting them?
Marius Boruch October 16th, 2010, 08:12 AM I will have no other choice;
do you know how to contact them directly - Sony Vegas support. What's best way phone or email?
btw...it show me this message once:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: ErrorReportClient.exe
Application Version: 1.0.0.3796
Application Timestamp: 4beac2a8
Fault Module Name: MSVCR90.dll
Fault Module Version: 9.0.30729.4926
do you happen to know what that file msvcr90 is responsible for? (graphic drivers???)
Edward Troxel October 16th, 2010, 08:40 AM I know it's a Microsoft file but am unsure what causes it to get installed.
Just call the Customer Service number and I'm sure they can direct you to the right place.

Edward Troxel October 17th, 2010, 06:36 AM My understanding is that the first x days/hours was free and it cost after that?
Travis Palmer January 5th, 2011, 01:43 PM I've had the same error message, how did you finally fix it?
Thanks
Kevin Janisch January 5th, 2011, 03:15 PM Yeah, I tried Vegas Pro 10 for half a day and crash city. Even with just Vegas Generated Media files, no video. It would crash on just trying to close the thing. I said back to Vegas 8.0c for me and I'll wait for Sony to fix it. Sony Vegas rarely, and I mean rarely crashes on me and that's with some heavy duty projects over 6-8 hours long, Magic Bullet, Velocity changes, lots of filters, etc. Version 10 crashed on me more times in 2 hours than Vegas 8 has in using it the past 2 years and I'm not exaggerating.
Leslie Wand January 5th, 2011, 04:09 PM another one here with the identical crash!
i get it by just choosing a genarts sapphire fx (s-dissolvedgerays) - and i'm on the last days of my genarts trial - so this is a real PITA.
screen goes black, then vegas whites out and then my nvidia card resets itself!
frankly i think the rush to 3d really screwed up some things....
btw. it worked ok in 10a?
Jeff Harper January 5th, 2011, 05:48 PM Unless it's changed, Vegas support is free for a period of time after your purchase.
Victor Wilcox January 5th, 2011, 10:23 PM MSVCR90.dll (Version: 9.0.30729.4926) is the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime DLL. There are several versions available depending on you CPU type and 32 or 64-bit Windows.
There are know issues with that could be related to the issue:
FIX: Error message when you run an application that is configured to be built for the x64 platform by using the MSVCR90.dll file that calls the strncpy function: "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in 'application_name'" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956420)
You can download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86):

and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64):

I don't know if this will fix your issue.
Buba Kastorski January 15th, 2011, 01:47 PM Thanks for the links Victor,
after installing Visual C I don't get MSVCR.dll errors any longer,
now it's vegas100k.dll;
I wonder if the cause of the problem is in the hardware/software incompatibility, lucky people who don't grt those IOsurrogates, are you guys using brand name machines only, or custom bulds also?
Seth Bloombaum January 15th, 2011, 04:10 PM Custom builds here, always intel processors/chipsets.
Lee Mullen January 15th, 2011, 11:47 PM IMO 10 is full of bugs. Sony are clueless. The latest error I get now is when I go to render, a box appears saying the filename is not acceptable or something. Unbelievable. Non of this junk on 9.
Leslie Wand January 16th, 2011, 12:22 AM well yes, 10c is buggy, and will crash with certain ofx plugins (usually with the same:
File: C:\Users\mb\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\dx_video_grovel_x64.log
File: C:\Users\mb\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\svfx_video_grovel_x64.log
File: C:\Users\mb\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\svfx_Ofx1_1_plugin_x64-'com.sonycreativesoftware_Filters.Stereoscopic3DAdjust' (0, Multiple Contexts).log
File: C:\Users\mb\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\svfx_Ofx1_1_plugin_x64-'com.sonycreativesoftware_Filters.Stereoscopic3DAdjust' (0, Filter).log
File: C:\Users\mb\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\dx_grovel_x64.log
as reported elsewhere.)
that said, i roll my own, but always intel+gigabyte mb and so far have never had what i could describe as a 'hardware' bug.
as an aside, with the bug report above i notice a call on 'stereoscopic3dadjust'. none of the filters i'm calling upon, which guarantee a crash, have anything to do with 3d whatsoever.
it's my belief that 10 has been a desire for features over reliability, and for my part PROPER support for ofx plugins should have taken precedence over 3d since, i'm guessing here, most pro users of vegas are not, as yet, working 3d, but most certainly are trying to make a living editing with what WAS a very reliable nle...
Sean Seah January 16th, 2011, 10:37 AM I had a repeatable crash last week due to my source files being spread over 2 drives. After i shifted everything onto one drive it rendered successfully to mp4.
Jim Snow January 16th, 2011, 10:47 AM I am also experiencing frequent crashes with V10. I virtually never had a crash problem before V10. I have made no changes to my system other than simply installing V10 (now on Rev. C). I now save my project VERY frequently so I won't lose more than a few minutes work. It's also important to send the 'snapshot' to Sony when prompted to do so. I really hope someone at Sony is analyzing these and gets the problem(s) fixed soon.
Buba Kastorski January 16th, 2011, 12:09 PM My installation of Vegas crashes all the time during editing, when I use space bar for start\stop play,
so my Ctrl+S is like a reflex, after every move :),
but after I enabled F12/Space bar start\pause instead start\stop under options, i can't crash it; usually it takes just a few frequent start\stop space bar clicks, nown I've been trying to crash it for about 15 min and I can't, let's see if that helps.
Rochelle Morris January 17th, 2011, 08:00 AM Well I would have to say that after 6 yrs of using Vegas, Dean is tempted to switch to Edius.
Hopefully the problems get fixed because time is money. Going back to V9 would mean that we would have to use cineform for our clips...more time issues.
Buba Kastorski January 18th, 2011, 07:24 AM I've tried old fix for V9 and it looks like it still works with V10;
CineForm codec playback issues in Vegas Pro 9 (http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4558)
Vegas still crashes, but there is a huge improvement in stability after swapping DLLs
Marius Boruch July 26th, 2011, 03:31 PM I noticed that when I disable (set) memory in Dynamic PAM preview to 0 it works OK; any thoughts?
