I like my HMC=150s but boy I miss the days of a shoulder mount camera I feel like I spend most of my money and energy making the 150 a usable run and gun camera that I need. How does the new HMC-80 stack up against the 150. I was thinking of getting a couple 80s as my main cameras and keeping my 150s for cover shot cameras plus some artsy fartsy work.

except for xlr inputs and the size of the hmc 80 ,its exactly the same as the hmc 40

The 80 also has pretty much all the controls you need on the body of the camera, rather than buried in touch screen menus.

As Tom says, it's the same internals as an HMC-40, with the same low light issues and smaller imaging chips. But whether that's a problem or not is up to you.

So its not as good in low light as the HMC-150?

with a lot of time on both the 40 and 150, there is a difference in the look. This is probably the cmos vs ccd and the size of the chips. I never used the 40 in low light but the 150 does pretty darn well.
I have cut these two cameras together on multiple occasions and the results are great. That said, the reason I own a 150 is for the manual controls.

Sony has a possibly new shoulder mount that looks like it may be the answer to my problem but boy its pricey for what it is.

no it is not

It should be mentioned that the 80 (and 40) can resolve significantly more detail than the 150.
