View Full Version : Public beta for CineForm Neo 5.2
David Newman October 9th, 2010, 12:12 PM These is a new of new capabilities going into the codec core, preparing for some new features coming soon. The changes are significant enough to warrant the bump to 5.2. Please report any issues you find here or with support, and we will turn the fix around quickly.
The release notes of change since the last official release.
Build 5.2.0.277:
Added: HDLink can now generate proxies for other CineForm files, for 2D or 3D work. All metadata transfers so that proxy can be corrected in FirstLight and all the corrections will automatically applied to the master CineForm file. Very cool workflow enhancement.
Added: Decode 422 to 444 filter control to the status viewer (removed from VFW control panel.)
Added: Decode speed option in the status viewer (more convient access than in the Tools folder.)
Added: A swap Left/Right metdata function, for those that mux 3D clips backwards.
Added: CS5 Project triming for MOV CineForm sources.
Added: 3D cameras can now store eye independent color/3d corrections upon capture.
Enhanced: Codec SDK to version 6.7, greatly helping third parties to read/use CineForm metadata.
Enhanced: Installer now tests for a valid QuickTime installation
Enhanced: FirstLight handles being launched twice better by bring to front the first .
Enhanced: Support for MXF sources that have two mono audio tracks, will now output stereo.
Enhanced: NeoHD/Neo4K will now protect more of the Neo3D settings.
Fixed: Support for MXF MPEG2 sources under Windows 7.
Fixed: Crash in Parallax3D filter that occurred on interlaced CS5 sequences.
Fixed: FirstLight loading snapshots with non-gamma 2.2 encoding curves.
Fixed: tools switching off with clips using a large number of keyframes.
Fixed: Invert option in FirstLight.
Fixed: CS5 handling CineForm MOVs greater than 4GB.
Fixed: Colorspace issue converting 3D clips with P-frames.
Fixed: CineForm MOVs audio issues.
Fixed: a crash using Fast 3D, or 3D speed mode in FirstLight.

David Newman October 9th, 2010, 01:22 PM Reporting on my own bug find.
Testing a Canon XF305 (awesome camera BTW) and I noticed the sample timebase for the timecode is incorrect. It start at the correct TC, but increments at 30 fps, even though I captured at 24p.
Otherwise MXF MPEG2 sources are now working fine, this includes 50Mb/s 4:2:2 MPEG2 from Canon and output from the Convergent Design's NanoFlash.
David Newman October 9th, 2010, 10:37 PM Anyone have anything to report, even that nothing bad happened? :)
This build tests the machine environment more than any other, testing for a valid QuickTime installs and making sure the needed Microsoft and Intel redistributables are present. While beta testers are typically existing users, who have 99% of these install issues solved, this should greatly help with first time users. It is the first time installation which causes most of our tech support load, fixing that will enable us to support the rest of you better.

Thanks for bringing Christmas early. I'll give it a shot.
Gary Brun October 10th, 2010, 12:06 AM Im having no problems here David.
Chris Barcellos October 10th, 2010, 12:22 AM Not sure why I want to, but I am trying out the Proxy feature..... cansee it of use on my laptop.
No problems to report as of yet.
oops... spoke to soon. The proxy i generated was from a Canon t21 file I had just converted in this latest version of Cineform. I played with it a bit in FirstLight, putting the warm bleach lut on the file. That was fine. I closed First Light, and made a proxy of the same file. Came out mostly dark. In FirstLight looking at the proxy, I took the LUT off, and I ended up with a green monochrome look...See screen grab attached.
David Newman October 10th, 2010, 10:25 AM I might need samples that do that, as I can't get the same thing to happen here.
Henry Olonga October 10th, 2010, 06:01 PM For Nanoflash support - this is a GREAT day - a game changer. Much appreciated guys. God bless you.
Keep up the great work.
Henry

I'm not sure how to get a proxy. Whenever I run HDLink on a (new) Cineform file, HDLink crashes. This happens whether or not the proxy box is checked. How did you get the proxies?

I will upload the two files if you want. Send me upload locations,,,

I just found and fixed a crash related to using CineForm source files in HDLink. I didn't think it was common, but it might be for some files. Patch/new beta will be out in a few days.

Use yousendit.com, if the files are too big, please ask support.
Stelios Christofides October 10th, 2010, 11:51 PM This is fine, but you get a bit frustrated when you buy the software and you are still waiting (3 days now!!!) for them to send you the registration key :-(

Sent you links to all three of the files involved in the the post above, to download via YouSendit
Gary Brun October 11th, 2010, 12:41 AM HI David.
Ive never had the problem before but Cineform files (transcoded with the new beta) crash Sorrenson Squeeze when trying to convert to a .flv file.
David Newman October 11th, 2010, 09:58 AM Gary,
That is unexpected. So older files continue to work? All new files fail? The recent changes should not have altered the bit-stream so this is surprising.
Gary Brun October 11th, 2010, 10:27 AM HI David.
I get a crash on all Cineform files.

David Newman October 11th, 2010, 11:52 AM Sequeeze works fine here. Can you send a source file that crashes and the extract Sequeeze set up to cause the failure. Are you exporting in a 3D mode, or anything else I should know.
Gary Brun October 11th, 2010, 12:20 PM HI David.
I can send you through a source file if required... Ill send you a link for download via your pm system if you need it... but even if the Cineform files are over a year old they still crash it (cant tell you what codec I used then). Any .flv preset casues the crash above on all Cineform files.
Im now using CineForm Neo4k (5.1.3 Build 272) Codec Version 6.5.4. 486
Sorrenson Sq 6.5 .0.42
Im only working with 2D files.
David Newman October 11th, 2010, 12:53 PM New or old, none are crashing here. I will need test will a short clip from you.
Gary Brun October 11th, 2010, 01:14 PM Youve got email...
Give it around another 10mins and it should all be uploaded.
Gary
David Newman October 11th, 2010, 05:18 PM I have refreshed all the download links for 5.2 to contain a patched HDLink.
Fixed: crash generating proxy (only occurred on some sources.)
Fixed: MXF timeocde reading.
NeoScene gets the component to allow it to encode within the new Vegas 10.
You can know you have the new version as it will be called ...277a.exe within the zip.

One step forward with ...277a - but...
Working with Canon 5DII files and HDLink I can now make proxy files from MOV files; very nice.
But I can't make good Cineform AVI files for MOV files; the resulting video has a green screen all over, with the original footage behind the screen.
Likewise if I try to make a proxy from a previous Cineform AVI file I get a full sized file (actually somewhat larger than the original), again with the green screen. (But it doesn't crash!)
David Newman October 11th, 2010, 09:27 PM Charles,
We can't product the green files here. As we not seeing anything like that, we may need to get support to do a remote session on you PC. It is likely an old registry preset we've long since forgotten. Friday is best as Jake is in the Solana Beach office with engineering.
As for "make proxy files from MOV files", unless the source was a CineForm file, it is not true proxy, just a small file. It is only a true proxy (in the CineForm sense) when the active metadata also crosses over.

Jake it is. In the mean time I've rolled back to 5.1.0.268 and don't have the green screen.

Thanks for your support. Finally Barbara sent me the registration key. Thanks again. By the way the program is wonderful and I am very excited about it. Solved me a lot of headaches.

Cedric Pottier October 12th, 2010, 07:42 AM Hello David,
are you sure this beta has fixed the issue with MXF files from Canon XF300/305 ?
i tried to convert some files and i still get the message "format not suported".
i use hdlink version 5.2 b277 (neo4k).
thanks!
Pete Bauer October 12th, 2010, 07:57 AM Make sure you have the 277a version, rather than the original 277 file (see David Newman's comment earlier: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/1577748-post23.html).
Cedric Pottier October 12th, 2010, 08:07 AM i just have downloaded the latest from the link at the top of this thread.
where did you get the b277a ?
Pete Bauer October 12th, 2010, 08:14 AM As David indicated in his post, open the zip file and make sure the exe within it is named with "277a" that includes the MXF timecode fix.
Chris Barcellos October 12th, 2010, 04:27 PM Charles,

David:
I had the same issue, and II sent you my files that were doing same thing, and the proxy file was made from the HD Link converted file, that was subsequently adjusted in First Light. I sent you all three files-- the original, the Cineform .avi, and the proxy, which exhibited the problem.
David Newman October 12th, 2010, 05:50 PM Chris,
Yes, thank you. Unfortuantely they don;t do it here. The Proxy is green yes, but I can convert the source fine.
New idea!!! Export the .fdb for the source file (export sidecar) and email me that. There might be something in your database we're not expecting.
