I use a Rode NTG-1 microphone with Rode Dead Cat windshield on the camera but from medium to wide angle shots, the windshield (hairs) show up in the frame.

Is there a small bracket available to mount the mic holder up higher?

Sure David, Rode offer 3 .. the SM5 raises the mic up a few cms but you might like the SM3 or SM4.

With the SM4 you have to add a shoe accessory which I do because it raises the NTG-3 shotguns up higher on the A1s. Cheers.

I use the Rode SM5 with my Rode NTG-2 (which is basically the same mic plus a battery option) and it extends the mic back far enough that I never have issues with the deadcat creeping into the picture. It's really made solid and works perfectly.

I got the Rode shock mount with my NTG1 three years ago and the mount failed within a year. It's plastic and probably had a flaw in the plastic somewhere. To Rode's credit, they followed up with me to find out what happened and they also told me that they redesigned it, so it should be better.

My replacement was recommended to me by a B&H rep. As I recall it was US$75, but it was aluminum and rubber and mounts to the hot shoe. It has great isolation and I could probably run it over with my car and it would be fine. It's that beefy. However, I looked on the B&H site for it and couldn't locate it.

That said, I've know a bunch of people who have used the Rode mount with no problems.
