In the dvd world to use rerecordable discs DVD + RW are needed ,what is needed to achieve the same with Blu Ray recording, the only time they may be needed is if a disc failed or needs altering and completely remaking.

Martyn,
If I understand your question, they do make BR-RW (re-writable) disks. I bought a single layer 25gb Sony disk for under $20.00US. Check the specs of your burner to make sure it will burn BD-RW, but I can't imagine any current model couldn't do this.
Since disks are costly, I thought doing my "test" burns on a RW disk as my option.

The rewritables are called BD-RE discs. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_recordable)
