I just bought a Azden SGM-PDII Shotgun Microphone for Pana AG-HMC 72 (PAL)
I couldn't get correct setting for both Stereo audio input;

Below is my setting for audio AG-HMC72:

Rear Cam Setting : Audio IN: CH1 (Switched to Phantom Power mode +48v)
MIC ATT. Default ON (What is this?)

Font Panel Cam Setting:
Audio Select : AUTO
Audio IN: CH1 (REAR) CH2 (FRONT) no sound detect if set to REAR?

Problem occurred now is when import video clip to editing, i noticed the Azden Shotgun microphone only captured on one side audio track on Left which is UN-balance (MONO) sound capture? Heavy on Left side even can notice waveform in LCD monitor.

How can i tweak it for Stereo capture? Left & Right during recording

Advice me if this correct setting or better solution?

It's a mono mic!!! So simply capture on one channel and change the audio in your NLE so the track is left and right. As it's a mono mic you can never have stereo !!! If I'm just using my Rode mic on the right channel I will set the channel 1 to rear and channel 2 to front.

Mic Attenuation gives you a -20db attenuation if it's on and normal if it's off. I run my Rode's at 0db on the mic and Mic Att always off until the environment gets noisy (wedding reception!!!!) then I switch the attenuation in.... I really prefer them off on both channels and then switch them in when needed!!

Is there any Stereo Shotgun Mic on market? Maybe a splitter to CH1 & CH2 at same time...

Is this also happen to HMC82? or HMC152 Only capture on Mono? No tweaking on camcorder setting?

Whats the purpose to have "Mono" Pro Shotgun mic? I think Panasonic should improve better on-cam mic since the other XLR Shotgun mic not up to the stereo standard...

Well Andrew in my 30 years in broadcast I have always used a mono pro shotgun mic for recording dialogue.

A stereo mic is useful for recording ambiences but mono is best for most things as stereo sound effects and music can be added in the edit or in audio post.

You can get stereo shotgun mics but as said they tend to be only useful for getting sound effects.

Gary is 100% correct ...stereo is seldom used for dialogue BUT if you are really looking for stereo then go for a Rode StereoMic ... As far as I know it comes with a minijack (3.5mm) so for XLR you will need to wire to 2 XLR plugs. However it is self powered no no phantom either!! My buudy Chip uses one when he records live bands so I can see the value there of having a stereo mic.

At weddings on my main camera I'm usually running a radio mic receiver into each XLR channel or the Rode shotgun into Channel 1 and my Radio Mic into Channel 2.
