View Full Version : CS5 Encore bug "timeline bitrate too high"...w/subtitles!

Here's another whacko Encore bug:

We have a DVD project (no, the bitrate is NOT too high for either audio or video or both combined! We've been doing this for a long time. When we look at the video and audio in Bitrate Viewer, it never even breaks 9 Mbps with a/v combined).

This particular project has 13 subtitle languages added (the exact same project in English was fine with all 13 added...and never gave an error in CS4 or CS3).

Now the kicker:

If we add one or two subtitles, everything is hunky dory. If we add 3 or more, we get a stupid "timeline bitrate is too high" error message! Even if we REMOVE the audio, this is true, so it has nothing to do with bitrate whatsoever.

What the heck does a timeline subtitle have to do with overall bitrate? Only one subtitle can be played at a time and it doesn't matter WHICH subtitles you use, it gives the error!

Okay any hardcore Adobe Encore bug killers, how the heck do we deal with this problem?

BTW, everythings already updated to 5.02

We're working through this (and am posting here for anyone with as similar problem) and have already discovered the following:

IF YOU:

- delete your buggy timeline...
- create a new timeline using the exact same assets...
- put all your 13 subtitles back in...
- reset all the chapter points again...

THEN, it gives no error message.

Sigh...no reasons, no explanation, no logic for it's aberrant behavior. Now that I remember, seems this is a repeat of many earlier episodes over the years...duhhhh.

Oh.....did I mention that it crashed 3 times in the meantime, each time totally refusing to open the project and losing everything? Having suffered with Encore for years, we use once-a-day backups for everything, so when it goes POOOOFFF and is totally gone, it's easy to recover.

Bug bug bugware...always was...apparently always will be. That's been true under Win2000, XP, XP x64, and now Win7 x64, and ever since version 1.0 (a real horror) with multiple workstation setups.

Why do we keep using Encore? Don't really know, guess we're machochists...

Back to zero again. None of the above worked when actually outputting to disk or image file. It all returned to giving the same error messages.

We've done everything we can think of so far, including reducing the quality of the video and audio (did nothing), removing subtitles (works if you only leave one or two), redoing the whole mess, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

BTW, we opened the English version (almost exactly the same) from CS4 and it worked fine, no probs.

I'm sick of Adobe Encore CS5 (or any other version).

It's "bugware" and I'll say that quite loudly, Adobe! If you want to run with the big players in authoring-ware, you've got to do better than unstable bugware. The subtitltes part is the worst setup I have ever seen and having it repeatedly kill itself over all the versions, and with multiple workstation setups, is certainly not confidence building!

No wonder Sonic gets so much for their software, since Adobe drives us into their arms out of sheer desperation!

"Pro-level authoring ware" ... what a joke.
