Just like the title says... I can't seem to get the IR remote to work with my new EX3. I go into the menus on both sides (cam and media) and turn it on. Try to use it and no go, go back and look in the menu and it has turned itself off again. What am I missing here??

Have you removed the little clear plastic flap that separates the battery from one of the contacts inside the remote?
If it is still there, you should see a little flap waving around the edge of the battery compartment door.

Turn on your camera and point your remote at the lens and push any button and look at the lcd of your camera, if you don't see a light then the remote is not sending out a signal, this way you can narrow it down to which one is mess up, (camera can see the infrared but not our eyes)

The IR remote will default to off every time you turn the camera off.

That is the problem. Why would they do that??? Turn it on, change it to media and then it's off again... I think that is a little silly on Sony's part.

Yea it is very silly, perhaps a power saving feature. You can assign a button to turn on the IR function if you are using it often.

I tried the remote several times nut never had much luck making it work unless I stand directly in front of the camera pointing the remote a few inches from the camera body. Then if the weather is right, no wind, snow, hurricanes or rain, it might just work. I now just use the first finger on my right hand as a remote.
