The first one goes higher (93" vs 63") the second one goes shorter (34.5 vs 19.8) Second one also includes a bag and leveller, while first one has a bubble but no levelling swivel. Weight is same on both

Hi Bob,

I'd go with the second choice. I can't imagine how you could use the camera at 93" high. And if it's got a bowl level than it also has a bubble.
The first one you have to level by adjusting the legs while #2 you adjust using the bowl.

But ultimately I guess it would come down to what your'e shooting. Do you need the height or the ability to shoot that low? Or the speed of levelling with the bowl?

I have 3 of the 3046/3246 (same but black) and I have used them all the way up. I've had corporate stuff, seminars and such, when I'm not on a riser but there is a raised stage for the speaker. The ability of getting the camera up high has been invaluable to me. Of course whether I'm using the 150s or the JVC5000 the trick is touch the camera or tripod as little as possible. Otherwise the shakes do show. I use 1 516 head for the big camera and 2 503 heads for the small cams but when its up that high and if you're zoomed in tight, the shakes are there.
Like was said, it just depends on your needs but as heavy as the 3246s are, I love 'em.

No doubt about it, get one that has a bowl leveling head!! Once you try and use a tripod/head with this feature, you will never want to level a tripod again using it's legs. It's worth every penny extra to get a tripod/head setup with a bowl head.

Thanks all. I think I am am going to find out if I can add a levelling bowl to the tall one.

In the UK you can get a Manfrotto half ball which gives 10 degrees of angular adjustment. It fits between tripod and head.

As it has a Bogen part number too I guess it is available in North America:
