Can I ask you guys something?

Almost every video I've looked at on this board (and I've watched quite a few) using the 5D/7D/t2i has a certain "look" to it. . .this is generally characterized by desaturated colors (current video excluded) and super duper contrast, and blacks without detail.

Is that a look people are getting in post, or is this a limitation of the way the camera shoots, or is it a look folks are dialing in via menus in the cams?

This video looks really cool for the most part, but something that bothers me is that extreme contrast/ridiculous blacks.

Looking at that shot of the rocks on the water. . .the "fill" side of the rocks falls off to complete darkness in broad daylight! Totally unrealistic! Are these cams that limited in dynamic range? I thought the dynamic range was the same as if it was taking stills. Not so? Is it at least comparable to an SD miniDV camera (e.g. Canon XL2)?

These looks correct the colors in the post.I may use a little too much contrast at some few shoots,I know. The reason I use much contrast is that it removes dust from shoots and make the shadows sharper.

So what kind of dynamic range is this came capable of? The only cam I have an extensive experience with lately is the old XL2. you can set it to have a pretty wide dynamic range (I don't know the number of stops, sorry), or dial in a fairly crushed setting like in these videos. So is the t2i capable of that, or better?

I just don't think I've seen a single DSLR video that didn't have that super contrasty look.

these cams can be adjusted for any color look you prefer,i dont bother with C/C, the only thing that slightly disapoints me is the sharpness i expected slightly more from 1920P, there is no way to compare the PQ to GLs for sure i used one the 550 is far superior, i get perfect blacks and white contrast.
